Sony BRAVIA KDL-V40XBR1 Upconversion?

Considering purchasing this set. Does anyone know if it converts all signals to 720p? The reason I ask is that I am also considering buying an upconvert dvd player and don't want to waste money if the TV itself will do the upconversion of the DVD signal from a progressive scan player.

It will convert the signal to 720p, but an upconverting player will yield a better picture if the scaler in the DVD player is better than the scaler in the tv. I don't know how good the Bravia scaler is. I would try it both way (720p from an upconverting player and 480i letting the tv scale the signal) to see what yields the best picture.

Thanks! I'll try it by letting the TV do it first, then consider buying the upconvert player. They are pretty cheap now, but I may just live with the TV doing the conversion unil HD-DVD or BluRay come out and are affordable, although my Xbox 360 and PS3 when it comes out may play the newer discs.
