We talked about this alittle bit on the recent Batman(60's tv)thread.Maybe there is copyright's to be worked on.I think Paramount owns the video rights but I could be wrong.I noticed on a season 2 episode of The Munsters-Jackie Coogan Jr.(Uncle Fester's son)made an appearance.

Too funny...that might work for like a 5-second joke, like when they had alien commentary on Galaxy Quest.

Addams Family would be good on DVD; I'd probably buy it. It scared me more than the Munsters. If they could release the 70's Halloween special too, all the better.

That was supposed to convey a "your guess is as good as mine" expression. I'd be all over such a release, though!!!

Been waiting for this forever... but if they are going to end up using the syndicated versions like (most of) the rest of TV On DVD, I guess I'll be waiting even longer.

This would be a true pleasure. I don't buy many tv shows but this would be a definite pick up.

I hope this pans out. I want this series so much, and October would be a perfect month for it.

Does Paramount own the home video rights and what would happen if they didn't want to release it?

Addams Family was a Filmways Presentation("dahling"). Of other Filmways properties, Paramount has Beverly Hillbillies(don't know about Petticoat Junction), MGM/UA(and now Sony) have Mr. Ed and Green Acres. The MGM/UA logo is tacked on the Addams Family on TV Land. Before the current TV Land airings Addams Family was distributed by Worldvision both in syndication and on vhs. If the "real" Addams Family now controls the show they may be able to shop around for a distributor or, they may have gotten ownership but whoever they were in dispute with got distribution rights.

according to addamsfamily.com :

Addams Family DVD Release Date Set
Updated 08/01/06

The OFFICIAL DVD release is scheduled for October 24th.

Just in time for Halloween, October 31st is a Tuesday, the day when DVDs get released.

The official worldwide release date is scheduled for October 24th. Metro Goldwyn Mayer producing the DVD set and 20th Century Fox is the distributor. Fox is also the producer of the "Special Features" DVD which will be included in the collection. The content of the "Special Features" disc has not been revealed I expect that it may contain some of the material previously released on the Criterion LaserDisc. That included cast interviews, and behind the scenes footage. I doubt that there will be anything from the animated series or the movies. There may be something of the "New Addams Family" which Fox produced for the then Fox Family Channel, which is now owned by Disney/ABC.

The October 24th date is the projected date of release, it may change due to unforeseen circumstances. Grandmama may be able to see into the future, but I can't.

This is an absolute must-have set! Any news as it relates to the entire series or is this just season one?

Some new specifics.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6259

Well, we assumed, like everyone else, that MGM/Fox would release this in season sets, but they've decided to go the volume route. The first volume will have 22 episodes (the first season was 34 episodes), which means the entire series should be released in 3 volumes. The set will feature full frame (1.33:1) video, and mono audio in English, French and Spanish.

Here are the contents of the set:

1. Disc 1 side A: The Addams Family Goes to School
2. Morticia and the Psychiatrist
3. Fester's Punctuated Romance
4. Gomez the Politician

Disc 1 side B:
5. The Addams Family Tree
6. Morticia Joins the Ladies League
7. Halloween with the Addams Family
8. Green Eyed Gomez

Disc 2 side A:
9. The New Neighbors Meet the Addams Family
10. Wednesday Leaves Home
11. The Addams Family Meets the VIPs
12. Morticia, the Matchmaker

Disc 2 side B:
13. Lurch Learns to Dance
14. Art and the Addams Family
15. The Addams Family Meets the Beatnik
16. The Addams Family Meets the Undercover Man

Disc 3 side A:
17. Mother Lurch Visits the Addams Family
18. Uncle Fester's Illness
19. The Addams Family Splurges
20. Cousin Itt Visits the Addams Family

Disc 3 side B:
21. The Addams Family In Court
22. Amnesia in the Addams Family

The set will cost $29.98 US ($37.98 CAN) when it's released on October 24. Releasing the series in volumes allowed them to keep the price of the set down to a reasonable price.

There are some snappy extras on the set as well:

* Audio commentary for "The Addams Family Goes to School" by director Arthur Hiller
* "You Rang, Mr. Addams" featurette
* "Snap, Snap" featurette
* Theme Song Kareoke

Are those the first 22 episodes that aired during season 1?

They are, so at least there's that.

I dunno -- I've been looking forward to this for a long time, but between splitting two seasons into 3 sets and putting them on flippers, it's a little disappointing that they're cheaping out. I guess the good news is that the price is reasonable, but I'd rather pay $10-20 more to have a full season on non-flippers.

Flippers, eh? This isn't more of that DVD18 nonsense, is it? I'll be inconsolable.
