Syriana ----> 4/18/06 (rumored)

From thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill:

Sources are telling us that Warner is currently planning to release Shane Black's Syriana on 4/18.

This is my favorite film from last year. I anxious to see it again.

I went to see this right before my Christmas break and found it fairly enjoyable and will probably pick up the disc if it's stacked. My friends, however, were a bit harsher than me and felt it was quite pretentious. I agree with them that some parts were very unclear and it shouldn't take three people to understand the full narrative (and yes, I was paying attention because I was entertained). I do think, however, while not up to par with other Holiday releases like Munich or even Geisha, Syriana was an interesting, if flawed film.

I thought Syriana was a mess of a film, a terrible movie. But I felt it had potential and hoped that there were things cut out that would be added back in for a DVD release. I can only hope that I was right...

From thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill:

Warner has decided not to release Syriana on 4/18. Word is they're now planning a release in May or June instead.

I'd agree with this. It was a scattered mess. Reading the IMDB synopsis afterwards revealed that I didn't actually miss anything. But even though I caught it all, I still felt it was a mess of a film. Sort of boring and plodding, too.

While watching, I was wondering if things were cut out that would make it connect a little better. But even if those were added back to an eventual DVD release I'd still wait for it used. I think there will be a lot of used copies dumped because of disappointed blind buys. I'm not sure why it keeps getting mentioned as best film of 2005...

Sounds like a fun little disc.

Hopefully, they'll retain the one-sheet for the cover art.

Agree, except for it having any potential. I'm not against slower, ensemble pieces but this thing barely had a pulse.

I just stuck said one-sheet up on my door last night.

A great film. So intricate and well-constructed.

Seems like there ought to be more on it if it's two discs, no?

I was thinking the same thing, but I think WB has done this before (putting a very small amount of SF on Disc 2). I could easily fit on 1 DVD.

I can't wait for this one; I felt like they were never going to release it on DVD.

How about an HD-DVD release date?
