My Name Is Earl -- "the Professor" -- 02.09.2006

"the Professor"

On their way to return a stolen laptop, Earl (Jason Lee) and Randy (Ethan Suplee) knock over a bus stop sign. Earl promises an elderly woman that he'll fix the sign after returning the laptop, but he is sidetracked by the computer's owner, the beautiful college professor Alex Meyers (guest star Christine Taylor, "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story"). When Alex takes a keen interest in Earl and his list, the two begin dating, but Earl can't help but notice that he is constantly the target of bad accidents and random acts of violence. At first he chalks it up to plain old bad luck. Then Earl remembers that he has yet to fix the bus stop sign and decides that karma is punishing him for causing people to miss the bus every day. Meanwhile, Randy embraces collegiate life and begins pledging a fraternity. Nadine Velazquez also stars.

Wow...that does sound like a pretty good episode.

Favorite new show of the year by far.

I also find it amusing that the hair and mustache by Jason Lee is all natural...no fakeness in his white trashiness!!!..HA!

You would think a college professor would know that Karma originated in Hinduism. I couldn't help but laugh when she said "Karma is a complicated Buddhist principle." If you are going to lecture Earl on the intricate details of Karma, at least get your facts straight.

Loved the bee-stung bottom lip and ear, that sight gag was just funny looking as hell. Plus Randy's logic in the paddling tradition was nice turn of the cheek.

Really funny tonight. That Ben Stiller is a lucky guy.

I'm just glad 'The Office' came after this and not the other way around.

Sorry, but I thought that was the only bad episode of the series so far; I just hated it. Was the writing staff off on vacation and someone called in the 'Seventh Heaven' writers to fill in? Everything funny pushed out of the way to land us with a heavy-handed moral. (repeated TWICE, in case we were too thick-headed to grasp its subtle complexity the first time?) Seemed like the entire tone of the show was altered. Not fun AT ALL.

So, is karma now the "bad guy" of the show, what with attacking the innocent professor? After seeing this, I'm not sure he IS on the right path...

How about Earl? Jaime Pressly and Christine Taylor?

My favorite part was when Randy grabbed the laptop and said, "hey, a porn machine!"

Wasn't that funny tonight. I didn't think Jaime Pressly was a huge part of the show but I was missing her today.

"Randy never thought he'd be so satisfied watching guys spanking eachother on the ass...but he was"

I thought the bee sting visual bit was too over the top.

Aside from that, this was as good an episode as you can have without Crab Man (or Joy).

I got a kick out of Randy standing up to the paddling.

Christine Taylor (who normally doesn't do much for me) looked amazing in tonight's episode. The bee-sting stuff was a little too-Hitch for me, but whatev. And I loved the "porn machine" line.

The one truly funny moment for me: typing "shark" into the porn machine made the fish go away.

That was cool.

The tone of this seemed different than previous episodes but it wasn't bad.
Although it was giving off too much of a Final Destination vibe.

This episode should've been called "My Name Is Randy" because he stole the show.. Although the rape whistle part was good

The swollen lip and ear -

Man-child Randy's introduction to the frat house was great as well. "I thought a fraternity was a bunch of old guys that drove around in circles in parades" (or something like that)

That, and how he immediately knew what college and town Bullwinkle were from.

Am I the only one that "the professor" (also in Dodgeball) reminds me of the manager of Chris Isaak's band on the Showtime show (only much thinner, but equally cute)?

I liked the old lady throwing her bag of groceries at the bus and one of the funniest lines ever on the show was at the end and went something like:

"I can't have a girlfriend right now, I'm karma's bitch."

Ok... Finally saw it live on HD. May have missed a minute or two here and there (getting dinner). I didn't see anything in the "widescreen" margins to write home about. Was there anything much?

A very decent episode but I'll agree with the comments about the bee sting swelling being over the top and just plain gross. Also, missed Joy and Crabman...they really bring a lot to the show...however Randy was gold in this one and Earl getting hit with a dart was hilarious... When I was a kid I accidentally threw a dart into my sisters leg, she was over watching the ep and said "Hey, you did that to me!"...

They don't throw an easter egg in there every week. I think there have only been 2 of them so far (Randy at the copier "High Def Rocks" in the 4th(?) episode and "HD Ale" last week)
