I don't understand why Supes 2 gets so much love. It may have a cool villan in Zod, but the film is poorly written and poorly acted. Plus, it couldve been so much more if Donner wasn't fired.

It's easy to see that Superman II could have been the best entry of the series, but it's undermined by cheesy humor, cheap production values, and the score that sounds like a high school marching band recorded it.

I agree. The music to SUPERMAN II is one of the flick's most unfortunate elements.

Superman: The Movie is my favorite. I used to prefer II, but now that I've been made aware of Donner's firing, Lester completing the film, Hackman being replaced with a body double and voice impersonator, etc., it's hard not to notice all that when I watch it.
I just wish the ending to Part I made any sense.

A reluctant vote for 1, as there are multiple parts of both 1 and 2 that I really hate. The origin in part 1 was done so well though, so it gets the nudge ahead.

Superman I is the better movie, but 2 has better rewatchability because the action gets going earlier. Plus some of the lines (mostly Zod's) are classics by this point and the point where Supes kneels and then crushes Zod's hand is fantastic.

Watching them recently, you can see how badly he shit all over it. I can't wait to see a Donner cut.
The first one was sheer perfection. It was amazingly acted, directed, scored and especially, WRITTEN. There hasn't been another comic book movie to date that was that well-written, IMHO. Hollywood would never put that much care into a big-budget movie in this day and age. Superman 2 was just cheaply put together and is camp in comparison to the first.

I'm not that crazy about any of them, but 2 gets a slight nod over 1.
(Warning! Rant follows.) At least 2 featured credible villains and a proper hero-villain confrontation. 1, by contrast, featured an idiotic, unconvincing version of Luthor and not one but two painfully unfunny comic relief characters. And that horrible Margot Kidder poem and Marlon Brando's absurd accent and that ending ...
It hasn't aged well, but then again I wasn't that wild about it at the time either. When you get down to it, the only parts of the first two Superman movies I actively like are the Clark-growing-up and Clark-gets-a-job parts of 1 and the fight in Metropolis in 2.
The golden age of superhero movies is right now so far as I'm concerned.

The origin of Superman in part one was brilliant. If part one had the three kryptonian villains story instead of the nuclear missiles/earthquake, then it would have been the ultimate superman movie.
