Did anybody else feel like Naomi was playing the exact same character in both movies? She's a brilliant actress but it seems she just recycled her role from Mulholland Dr to play Ann in Kong. Maybe not....I'll have to wait until Kong is out on DVD before I can get a better comparison. I've only had one viewing of Kong.

And anyway, while on this topic, I was wondering if you guys can name any other actors who have basically just reprised their same character work in different movies.

I thought Naomi Watts deserved an Oscar nomination for King Kong

Was there a hot lesbian kiss in King Kong?

I felt like Jack Black was reprising his role of "Augie" from Airborne.

I agree theres some similarities between the acting in Mulholland Drive and King Kong, but actually felt King Kong's was a more grounded portrayal. Both have this "classic Hollywood" bit to them, but while her character in Mulholland Drive is completely wide eyed through the entire thing, she had a lot more range and different reactions in Kong (It was less Wide-eyed wonder, more actual "WTF is going on?" which is kind of funny considering what she plays against in the two movies). So similar characters, but different enough to not be a Tom Cruise role (not a slam to his 'acting', it's just every movie I see him in, it's Tom Cruise playing Tom Cruise in a different situation. Watts on the otherhand, you'd never mistake her in Mulholland Drive and her in The Ring as being one and the same.)

I totally agree with you on Chris Farley, but I wouldn't want him to play any other type of character. He was just so fun to watch even if the roles he played had no chance of winning an academy award which is a shame in my opinion.

I don't know if I would consider Jim's roles in Ace Ventura, The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Majestic, and Bruce Almighty the same type of character. In the beginning of his career his roles were a little more similar, but not so much in the last seven years.

I seems that ever since Scent of a Woman Al Pacino has been playing the same over-the-top, loudmouth over and over again. Not to say he's not a great actor, it's just lately he seems to be becoming a cliche unto himself.

Tom Cruise is great at one type character, an arrogant, smart-ass know it all.
-Top Gun
-Rain Man
-Jerry Maguire
-A Few Good Men
-Days of Thunder
-The Color of Money

Don't get me wrong he is perfect for these roles, and plays them better than anyone else, but he doesn't have much range like a DeNiro or Pacino does. Then again, I don't think he really cares with all the loot he has.

Kong didn't end with Ann on a sofa masturbating herself. ;)

John Wayne.
Haven't seen Kong yet, so which version of Watts" Mullholland Dr. character is in it. The perky Miss America goody two-shoes, or the obsessive, jealous loser.

I've seen Jack Nicholson play Jack Nicholson in several movies. But, I like Jack.

Just because he doesn't put on accents or drastically change his look all the time like Meryl Streep and Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't mean he is playing 'himself'.

Check out Prizzi's Honor, Five Easy Pieces, About Schmidt, and Hoffa. Then come back and we'll talk.

Add De Niro to that list and then give Pacino a point for Angels In America.

Now they're about tied in the 'please quit acting for a few years then come back and wow us with your appropriate acting ability' department.

Perky Miss America goody two-shoes. Which is probably why she was considered to begin with.

He's also a great cold-blooded killer (Collateral).

Which movies, exactly? And how do you know Nicholson personally as you said he plays "Jack Nicholson"?

Keanu Reeves is the same in just about every movie he is in. As for an actor who is not around anymore Pauly Shore was the same in his movies

Jack Nicholoson doesn't always play the same type. He's one of the few actors that understands subtlety. He's one of my favs.
