I suppose it'll be tougher for those who have over a thousand DVDs and have been collecting for over 5 years. And it could be easier for those who do exclusive online shopping.
But even I stumped myself with one title in my lil' collection, Batman:The Movie (1966) , which I seriously have no memory of when and where I got this.
Are you up to the challenge? -biggrin-

I probably could, except for a few that were gifts maybe. I've got around 300. I save the receipt and stick it in behind the inserts whenever possible.

Now, I normally buy from DDD, Best Buy or Amazon. Just whoever has the best price or for convenience.

Actually, I'm not sure how you could be hazy on how or where you got your DVDs from. Just seems like something you should be able to recall, unless you were buying just for the sake of it.

I bought my first 4 DVDs from www.justlaserdiscs.com (Ironic, isn't it). That was before Reel.com, 800.com, DVDExpress.com, etc. I even started a small business in 1998 and was ordering them wholesale from a company in New York and selling to all my friends for $1 over my cost (about 20% off MSRP, which was a couple dollars lower than anywhere else at the time). Once the online companies started flooding the market and selling at 30% off MSRP, and ultimately Best Buy and Circuit City starting up in 1999, I could get them cheaper at retail and closed the business in mid-1999.
I know where I bought every DVD in my 1500+ collection, EXCEPT ONE, "Road Trip". That is the only DVD that I lost my receipt for before I finished filling up my DVD database (since I started forgetting which DVD's I owned).

Well, since I use DVD Profiler, it's not too difficult.
It's only a problem involving the DVD's I bought before I started using Profiler. But the location wasn't the tough part on those, it was a bigger problem trying to figure out the actual day I bought them.

Not exact dates, but I know if one disc is older than another. I have about 40 DVD's lumped at the same date in DVD Profiler, mainly ones I bought in B&M's and forgot when. I probably have the receipts, but don't bother looking.

how the hell can you all remember where every single DVD came from? i mean that is amazing, but for the ones with 200+ or even slightly less...how? i have a great memory for certain things, like entertainment, names of actors and movies they were in and stuff and i do know where i saw and who i was with for most theatrical releases as i have saved every stub since 1985, but with my dvd's there is no way in hell i could tell you if i got half of them at best buy or Circuit City or online or what. some yes, of course, but all 500...no way in hell. i think it is like asking where you bought that bag of chips you enjoyed in 2002...how the hell can you know?

I input the store into DVDProfiler when I add the dvd. I only started adding that information in (as well as price paid) in 2005 though. So, I don't know where I got every single dvd in my collection, but I could tell you where most of them are from.

Can't remember where I bought every single DVD out of the over 300 I own, but 98% came from either Suncoast and Wal-Mart. I rarely order online. The two times I did, one was a two-disc Ernie Kovacs collection that Suncoast couldn't order for me, and the other time was six 1970's era adult movies I ordered from Video Age, because stores where I live aren't allowed by law to sell those types of movies.
I DO remember where I got "Batman: The Movie (1966)" however. It was in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart.

Although I use DVDProfiler, I've never felt the need to enter info about where I bought the DVDs and how much I paid. It was too late to do that anyway when I started using the program, but even if I had it when I started buying DVDs I don't think I would bother to do it.
So, I would be going by memory. I went through the first 50 DVDs and there was one I don't remember, so I would estimate there would be 7 or 8 I don't recall.

For the most part, yes. Or at least I can find that information. I do use the 'where purchased' on DVDProfiler, and the only blanks that i can recall were either contests I won, DVD clubs, or trades/gifts, and given the dvd title, I can remember where it came from [in the case of a gift/trade, maybe not *from* whom, but that it was a trade/gift].
And yeah, I've only got 170 or so titles in DVDP; it's not like I'm trying to keep track of 600 or so.
