After having read John M. Barry's The Great Influenza, Crosby's America's Forgotton Pandemic, and Lynette Iezzoni's Influenza 1918, figured I'd go ahead and start Gina Kolata's Flu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918.

Lullaby is the last Palahniuk book for me to read, and just havent gotten around to it yet, eventhough its been sitting on my shelf. I loved Diary though, after Fight Club its my fav by him. Still on the Cell, but next will either be Lullaby or Frankenstein by Koontz.

I'll strongly recommend Lullaby for your next read. I'm not sure where it ranks among Palahniuk stories that I've read...I love all of them, but it's definitely a good read.
Has anybody here read Haunted? I've read the "Guts" short that's in there online. Just wondering if it'd be worth hunting down after I read Diary, and before I move from Palahniuk to Welsh. Also, what about his non-fiction books (Stranger Than Fiction, Fugitives & Refugees...and there's a listing on Amazon for "Nonfiction," though I'm not sure what that is)? Worth checking out?

Haunted is ok, but not his best for sure...Actually ranks last of everything Ive read of his. Its entertaining at times, but the end was pretty bad and although some of the short stories were pretty good, as a whole, just didnt work all that well. I wouldnt discourage you from reading it, but if you have other stuff to check out, read those first.

Good deal. The main reason I was interested in it was because of the effect the Guts short had on me when I read it...but I wasn't quite sure how well the combination of a collection of shorts into a novel worked. I'll pick it up eventually, but I'll work my way through the other half a dozen books or so that I have waiting.
Thanks for the input.

Downloaded eBook from my local library. Read it in 12th grade 10 years ago and have been wanting to read it since.
Last week, I read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and Dean Koontz's Velocity. I'll probably read another Koontz book this week but I haven't decided which one yet.

Great book, the first three chapters are pretty boring. (Pepper trade and evolution history of the islands affected by the eruption) But it really picks up on chapter 4.

3 great books in a row! I love David McCullough's 1776 but this is much better. I really goes in to detail about the elite British and Hessian troops, good read!

This was a glorious collection of stories. Bender's ability to fill her surreal little oddities with such honesty and genuine emotion is incredible; I was surprised on several occasions how moved I was. Along with Jonathan Lethem's recent books, this is some of the best short story work I've read.
A rather saucy (no pun intended) memoir with almost equal parts sumptuous food descriptions and rowdy sex romps. Bonus points for the recipes scattered throughout. :) Not quite as good or endearing as Julie Powell's Julie & Julia at this point, but definitely enjoyable.
I was born in Belfast so I had to pick it up. Damn good read so far

Have you been reading all of the Cross books? I thought that one, and the 3 that came before it, were garbage. If you are feeling the same, know that Mary Mary is a lot better. Not great but better.
I have read them(Cross) all so far. Roses are Red was decent, but I agree on Violets are Blue. That was garbage.
I like BBW so far. I got Mary, Mary for Christmas so now I am playing catch up so I can read it.
Personally, I have been enjoying the womens murder club more than the recent Cross books.
Don't forget to read London Bridges before you go on to Mary Mary, especially since Bridges has the same villain as BBW. I actually thought BBW was one of the worst books I ever read, and certainly the worst of the Patterson lot. I've yet to read London Bridges because I was so turned off by BBW, but I have heard good things about Mary Mary so I will pick that up at some point.

Well, BBW was okay. Nothing spectacular. The ending was a big tease, but I knew that going in since my sister said the villian returns in London Bridges.

I finished three books today:
Bouncing off the Moon - David Gerrold - sequel to Jumping off the Planet
A Century of Science Fiction 1950-1959 - ed. R. Silverberg - It's possible I've read this one before, or perhaps I've just read all the stories before. I've started an Excel file of what I've read to hopefully not reread something unexpectedly
How to Talk to a Liberal - Ann Coulter - very interesting aggregation of lots of her columns, grouped by topic, including some that haven't been printed/published before. Only thing is, some of the topics were overrepresented in my mind.
Great book. I will make a trip to Johnstown to check out the scene of the disaster this summer.

I just started reading Dean Koontz's Intensity. The beginning is REALLY similar to the movie Haute Tension. Hopefully the ending doesn't have the same twist.
Quick story, back in 92-93 in high school, I hated reading with a passion. Never wanted to read the school required texts/books much less novels on my own time until a co-worker suggested Skeleton Crew. That book single handedly turned me on to reading. There are some great stories in there, including one of my all time favorites, "Cain Rose Up."
Kinda depressing, but I've only managed to get through seven books so far this year. :(
