113!
Rutgers signee breaks Miller's HS girls scoring record
Epiphanny Prince, a 5-foot-9 senior, shattered the all-time national high school girls basketball scoring record Wednesday with an incredible 113 points as Manhattan's Murry Bergtraum routed Louis Brandeis 137-32.
The previous record of 105 points was set by Cheryl Miller of Riverside Poly in 1982. Lisa Leslie also topped the century mark with 101 for Inglewood Morningside in 1990. Both schools are in Southern California.
Coach Ed Grezinsky noted, "We didn't start off like that to set a record], but she had 58 at halftime. At that point, I said, 'Just let her go.'"
Prince, who has signed with Rutgers, drilled 54 of her 60 shots from the field -- many on fast-break layups -- and three of four free throws. She scored 38 points in the first quarter, 20 in the second, 25 in the third and 30 in the fourth.
"It's just amazing to me," Prince told SI.com. "My best game had been 55 points in eighth grade. Even when they gave me the ball [constantly in the second half], they [Brandeis defenders] didn't converge on me. They reacted very slow, so I just kept on going to the basket."
So how was she planning to celebrate? "I'm about to go to Rutgers to see them play St. John's," she replied. The steak dinner can wait.

I don't see how any team no matter how bad they are can let one player score that much. After a certain point, wouldn't you just double and triple even quadruple team her? Sure it leaves the other players wide open, but you have to make her work a little.

I bet the other team was just letting her score. Most of it was fast break layups. Meaningless record.

137-32. That's just stupid. Kobe was trying to drag his sorry-ass team out of a 14-point halftime deficit to an NBA win and an outside shot at the playoffs. There's nothing to be celebrated here, and the coach should be ashamed. She's a girl in high school and doesn't know any better, but he should.

Maybe it's different with girls, but if a team was running up the score against the guys I used to play in leagues with, it would have been open season not only that star scorer, but everyone else on the floor. That's just ass.

I'd imagine it's not that high.
I mean. Cmon. It's probably way easier for her to get to 130 than a guy. She was just playing against... Girls. -rolleyes-

I don't blame him. It's the other team's job to stop his players, not his. Tough luck if they can't.

Meanwhile there were probably girls on the bench who hardly ever get to play in a game. But they have to sit out because one girl is being a ball hog and going for some meaningless record. It's just low class. This game obviously turned into a big joke and I'm certain the other team didn't care one bit about playing defense.

Please see definition 2. Kthxbye.
On Jan. 26, 1982, Miller made 46 of 50 field goals on the way to 105 points. Her Riverside Poly (Calif.) squad defeated Riverside Norte Vista, 179-15.
Holy CRAP! That's just stupid.

Why didn't someone knock that girl on her ass? If you're being humiliated, at least get a bit of revenge. :)
Too bad John Chaney wasn't coaching that team.

If the opposing coach says anything to his players about committing harsh fouls, or even implying it, and this girl chipped a nail, he would be public enemy #1 today in the United States.

FYI: Lisa Leslie scored those 101 points... in one half. They didn't even play the 2nd half of that game.

I was about to say that. Leslie was on track to score 202 points if the opposing team had consented to finishing the game. Even for a girls HS game, that's impressive.

I just would've been hated
If I was a coach there's no way I let anyone drop that many on my team unless they really earn it. They would get tripled hard everytime they touched the ball...and if they made it by the triple team Big Sally would be waiting to knock them on their ass when they sniffed the lane.

It's high school girls. "Big Sally" is 5'1" and doing her nails at mid-court.
