Missing Rodriguez SE's?

Does anyone have any idea on the status of the SE for Spy Kids? Or if there will ever be an SE for The Faculty or Shark Boy?

I did a search and didn't see this and haven't seen any talk recently.

The SHARK BOY DVD already has some extras and a commentary, along with a 2-D and anaglyph (red/cyan) 3-D version.

Sensio will probably be releasing (in association with the studio) a higher quaility, full color 3-D version of SHARK BOY in coming months. If they follow the pattern set with SPY KIDS 3-D, the Sensio Processor version will come out first followed by a regular field sequential format version a couple of months after. The HQFS (High Quaility Field Sequential) versions allow you to ditch the awful colored glasses and get a 1000% better 3-D experience, as long as you have the $29 glasses. And yes, it will work on many HDTVs, despite what you have heard. Plasma and LCD users may require some additional equipment, but it works fine on CRT/SD and HD sets, RPTV DS/HD sets, and many DLPs.

He's been talking about the Spy Kids SE for ever. I sure wish that would come out. I know he did the commetary for it already. He talks about it on Spy Kids 3.

As for Sharkboy, I'd like to see what kind of film school he could do with that. The movie seemed rushed, but he's always full of information on how things were done.

As for The Faculty, this was an overused story, but the direction by him was amazing.

All in all, if I could get the Spy Kids SE, I'd be happy.

How about Road Racers? That was supposed to come out the same time the Sin City Special Edition did, but now it seems to have vanished. Funny thing is, I still see the cover art popping up in the upper right hand of this forum every now and then like it's teasing me. Does anybody know why the release was cancelled?

I don't know why it was canceled and apparantly Robert Rodriguez doesn't know, either. I read an online chat transcript that he did for the release of the 2-disc "Sin City" DVD and he basically said "I did an SE of 'Roadracers' that's probably out by now". There are "Faculty" and "Spy Kids" SE's in the works, too.

Do you have a link to the chat?

I don't but I might be able to find it. I think I came across it in the first place when I was searching for a copy of the "Sin City" breakfast taco recipe that I could print out. Lemme see if I can find it again. As for the "Faculty" and "Spy Kids" news, that was from an online article about the "Sin City" score that hit the net during the film's theatrical release so that one may be a bit harder to dig up.

OK, the chat transcript was from cinecon.com. A quick google search of +"sin city breakfast tacos" +roadracers brought it up but you have to register to read it if you click the link. HOWEVER, if you click on Google's cached version you can read it without registering. That link ishere. It should be noted that the plug was pulled on the "Roadracers" release long before Rodriguez's comment was posted on December 6 so he definitely seems to be "out of the loop".

Here's what he said:
I have a new version of ROADRACERS coming out soon. check for it, it was supposed to come out in December, not sure if it still is.

It has a ten minute film school on it, commentary and a new digital color correction i worked on for a quite a long while... it looks really good, and i remixed the sound in 5.1 and beefed up the sound on it. One of my favorite movies. I shot it in 13 days, and the making of shows how to make a feature in 13 days...

I would settle for a featureless anamorphic version of The Faculty.

I dug up the article that mentions the three SE's being worked on, it was from soundtrack.net. There's not much information but it seems reliable, and the phantom "Roadracers" release was announced after the article was published so there was definitely some truth to it. You can read the article here but here's the quote in question:

Rodriguez is currently working on several special edition DVDs to come out later this year, including RoadRacers, The Faculty and Spy Kids, as well as finishing up The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D.

Great reads. Now if he did the Roadracers DVD, what the heck happened to it? It had a release for a while and then just disappeared a couple weeks before it was to hit. Anyone have an idea?

I'd settle for a features-up-the-wazoo anamorphic version, myself.

the cut scenes might be lost (who knows?) but I'd love to see the unrated cut of 'Desperado'

Roadracers is the one I'm waiting for too... I'm not 100%, but it might've been tied up in the Miramax/Weinstein split... I know Dimension had the rights to it...
