Arctic Monkeys!?!?!?! are these people out of their FUCKING MINDS!?!?

well it is the NME i suppose

I agree, my first impressions of the Arctic Monkey's album was not that impressive to qualify it as number 5 - wtf?

Secondly - sure it's subjective, but for a list that doesn't include:
- Boo Radleys 'Wake Up Boo!'
- Lush 'Lovelife'
- The Delgados 'Peloton'
- The Autuers 'After Murder Park'
- Doves 'Lost Souls'

is simply NOT a definative list IMO

I've got 27 of those. It would have been nice to see some Elton John on there, such as "Tumbleweed Connection". Or is he "not cool"?

Oh, and really, "Revolver" at #9? Jee-zus! Who the fuck are the Arctic Monkeys?

I love how self righteous (and frankly stupid) Amuseddaysleeper is by noting Coldplay as "i am so gay it fucking HURTS." Grow up - sheesh.

Even though I am beatles biased...#9 is their top entry? Come on.
Has this douche/group of editors ever heard of a little band called Pink Floyd?
I don't mean to diss the musicians/albums on the list, but some of the newer stuff is way to high on the list. Great albums only get better with time and prove to have staying power. Who knows if anybody will even know who the Arctic Monkeys are in 10 years?

I found the thread this was posted on at weezernation. It looks like that's something the forum censor automatically does there. One post in that thread actually reads:

"Who else thinks it is HILARIOUS that i am so gay it fucking HURTS. is referred to as "i am so gay it fucking HURTS"?!?

Who did that? Funny shit."

So it looks like they all need to grow up over there.

When I saw that Revolver wasn't at the top of that list, it lost all credibility IMO.
And your telling me that Parachutes by Coldplay is more important that Led Zepplin IV. WTF is that?

Yeah, this is the thing that's so annoying about the British music press. While I give them credit for hyping some of my most favorite bands of all time (especially during the Britpop era), they become very revisionist based on what's hot at any given moment. I remember when Oasis' "Be Here Now" came out and every British review said how brilliant it was and by the end of the year they finally caved in and admitted that it was the coked-up disappointment that everyone that purchased it already knew. Besides the absurdity of having Arctic Monkeys in the top 10 (which is ONLY because they are the current IT-band in England), the only reason the Libertines made the top 10 is because they're all obsessed with that worthless crackhead Pete Doherty and need to justify giving him constant press by pretending what was a decent album he was once capable of is, infact, a classic.

Having ranted, there are some nice, unexpected choices on that list (I'm personally thrilled that The Fall made it, if my name didn't tip you off)

I own the same amount. There are some damn good albums on that list. Arctic Monkeys that high is just stupid. And I definitely would substitute specific recordings from some artists (Blur's "Modern Life" above "Park Life"? No go.).

Never heard of Redskins, Derek and Clive or Patrick Wolf. So, at least a list like this can have me investigate a bit.

I for one am glad that The Bends outranks OK Computer on this list. Both GREAT albums, but I've always felt that The Bends was better (and less pretentious).

Now where the fuck is Sgt. Pepper?!??!?! I mean, really.

16. Dexys Midnight Runners – Searching For The Young Soul Rebles
21. Muse – Absolution
30. Suede – Suede
33. Coldplay - Parachutes
41. Kate Bush – Hounds Of Love
52. Madness – One Step Beyond
68. The Pretty Things – Sf Sorrow
84. Redskins – Neither Washington Nor Moscow
91. The Fall – The Nations Saving Grace
95. Julian Cope – Jehovahkill
96. Adam And The Ants – Kings Of The Wild Frontier
98. Roots Manuva – Run Come Save Me
99. Patric Wolf – Lycanthropy
100. Derek And Clive – Live

Another dumb-ass NME list that's hardly worth responding to (Jesus Christ, can the Brits please get over their ridiculous Stone Roses infatuation?). Having said that, the above are the only albums I don't own.

I own both, and even though I've had as much Coldplay as I need for one lifetime, IMO they're far preferable to Zeppelin, who rival Pink Floyd as the most overrated, overappreciated band in history.

Well, that's just because Pink Floyd really can't be considered British anymore.

Since "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" have been on "repeat play" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in every college fraternity and sorority in the U.S. since the date of their release, they've effectively been naturalized to the U.S.

And properly ghetto-ized, thank God.

To name just one omission, the Pogues' Rum Sodomy and the Lash is better than at least half that list.

This week's flavor of the month The Arctic Monkeys is a better album than every album by The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Clash and Led Zeppelin.
