The Wedding Singer : Totally Awesome Edition ----> 4/25/06

From dvdactive.com :

Title: The Wedding Singer
Starring: Adam Sandler
Released: 25th April 2006
SRP: $19.97

Further Details:
New Line Home Entertainment has announced a 'Totally Awesome Edition' of The Wedding Singer which stars Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Christine Taylor and Allen Covert. The disc will carry an unrated cut of the film (containing around five minutes of never-before-seen footage), presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. Audio will arrive in the form of English DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. DVD extras will include an 80s Mix Tape (“Jump To A Song” navigation feature), a behind-the-scenes look at the new Broadway musical, and the theatrical trailer. You'll be able to own this one from the 25th April, for $19.97.
"Awesome" cover art here . Great moive, Sandler best, but the marketing title sucks.

It's a shame that it's not a bit more elaborate, feature-wise, seeing as how we've had a perfectly decent anamorphic transfer for years now. And only a featurette about the upcoming musical? Lame.

DTS? Yay.

Does anyone actually say "totally awesome" during the film? Sounds like more of a Fast Time reference.

Why not the "I hope you fucking choke" edition? Not a very marketable term, but sounds better.

Just as an FYI, here is more info about the Broadway show. My wife and I got tix, we're going in April.

Now back to topic - I will pass on this one. The original dvd is good enough for me. If the new dvd were to include a commentary, I may have thought otherwise.

I'll most likely double dip right away if it's in the 12 dollar range, if not i'll wait till it eventually reaches that price or lower.

Well, when the studios wear out "Special edition" to the point where you don't even care anymore, you gotta try new things. I agree, it sucks.

"See? Billy Idol gets it!"

I'm all over this. If MSRP is $19 then it should be fairly cheap.

This is one of those movies I'm always in the mood to watch. One of Sandler's better roles IMO. Him and Drew have great chemistry and Christine is easy on the eyes. Great 80's soundtrack too. Sure, it has a sappy ending... but it's the perfect sappy ending.

"Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up. "

New Line is slowly re-releasing all their titles that weren't Platinum Series to begin with.

a good edition of Boiler Room is out, but a DTS and extended edition would be great.

I would hope for more than 5 extra minutes of footage and a nice but not necessary DTS track, but the price at CH is always right.

The old disc has:

*Widescreen/fullscreen

*80's Karaoke Songs (White Wedding, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Rapper's Delight, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, and Hold Me Now)

*80's Music Mania (Trivia Game)

*Cast Biographies and Filmographies

*Wedding Album (Photo Gallery)

I went through this whole disc a month or two ago, and there's just not a whole lot there of any substance. Not that the new one has a whole lot, either, but it looks like it's the one to get for folks that don't have the old one yet.

Never grabbed this, DTS sounds like a nice reason to pick it up (that and not being in a snapper)

What is with all this extra footage? Most of these movies have sufficient running times. Extra footage should be supplemental. At least it's not as much a The 40 Yr Old Virgin. like Wedding Crashers, an option to pick the theatrical edition should be on the disc. Time to start waiting for HD material with full bitrate audio like the DTS laserdisc would have had.

Cool. I don't own this on DVD yet, so I'll have to pick this up. It's probably my favorite Adam Sandler movie.

Doesn't Christine Taylor's character say something to the extent of "Don't we make a totally awesome couple?"...or something like that.

EDIT: Nope. I checked. I guess she doesn't. She says "totally", but no "awesome". So much for that theory.
