Toy Story 3 scrapped! NO WAIT! It's BACK ON!

Snap E Tom writes "The Independent Online is reporting that Toy Story 3 has been scrapped. This is a strong clue that the Pixar guys are firmly in control at Disney. The ground-breaking films were being milked into almost as many movies as The Sims has expansion packs. John Lasseter, Pixar's creative head, was strongly against the idea of third and forth movies, while the old Disney regime pushed forward with it. Now with Pixar and Steve Jobs on the board, Lasseter has taken the necessary steps to prevent the franchise from being diluted."

A shame for the animation crew that was attached to it. I heard a lot of conflicting rumors though that it was getting retooled and then scrapped and then retooled. So at the very least it's not going to happen any time soon.

I'd imagine with the Pixar guys being firmly entrenched at Disney, this is just their way of ensuring a quality product, instead of Disney's output, which probably woulda been awful

I've also got no problem with this. It would be nice if sequels would only be made by the people associated with the original film.

At first I was a bit disappointed with the Pixar/Disney merger. Thinking that Pixar should become its own identity entirely, production and distribution and everything. Then I read about this Toy Story sequel story and thought maybe Jobs and Lasseter could bring some integrity to the Disney company, bringing it back to what it once was. No more direct to video sequels to classic movies, and maybe some new animated classics.

Expect that to be the last of its kind. No need to lose out potential cash that was already spent on it.

I just hope Lassester doesn't get the idea to scrap upcoming Disney films American Dog, Meet the Robinsons, and Rapunzel Unbraided.

I'm so glad they scrapped this. It was a horrible idea from the start and a way for Disney just to make more money off Good movies. How many movies have they bastardized over the years? Cinderella 2, Bambi 2...

If Pixar decides to do Toy Story 3, then I will back it 100%. But a direct to video or even a theatrical version made just by the Disney morons? That deserves a chance to be seen???? I don't think any of Disney's forced direct to video sequels deserve to be seen, and Chicken Little sure as hell didn't deserve to be seen.

Rescuers Down Under (Rescuers 2) wasn't that bad. It was done long before Aladdin 2 (Return Of Jafar) which was the start of Disney's direct to video sequels.
