No DvdTalk Love For "The Flash" ?
"The Flash" dvd boxset is currently making the rounds in my dvd player, and I am just surprised that this excellent series has received no buzz in the dvd world. I can't even find a review for the set anywhere.
This dvd set is a must buy for comic book fans. I loved the show when it first aired, and the shows have really aged well over the years. The special effects are still amazing, I love the soundtrack, and the storylines are good fun while not being too cheesy. The downside is the dvd set is about as barebones as you could get with no extras. I would have enjoyed learning about the making of the show.
Some people say that the show was canceled when it was revealed that John Wesley Shipp was gay which I find hard to believe. However, I definitely see him in a different light now. lol

When did he come out? I don't remember hearing about it until he was already on Dawson's Creek in the later 90s.

The Flash was a wonderful series, but I was very disappointed that there were no extras at all. I'm sure Mark Hamill would have loved to done commentary or something!

I remember watching the show when it came out 15 years ago but I also recall how CBS kept moving it around (different days and time slots), often leaving me to find that my VCR recorded the first half of the show before cutting out. It was repeatedly interrupted for the Gulf War too. The lack of extras did suck, as did the picture quality on many of the episodes, but at least I got to see all the episodes I missed so long ago.
I'm willing to bet the initial quality control problems kept Warner from sending out screeners (the first disc had some issues for a lot of people and a replacement program is now in place) but here's my review in case it helps any of you make up your mind:

The lead character was Barry Allen, his brother was Jay (just one typo)..
Sorry, I'm sad it's only a "rent it". But I agree, picture was horrible. It's almost like watching my VHS copies (except for when our VCR was going down and everything had static on it). I'm up to disc five now and loving it even more!
The lead character, Jay Allen (John Wesley Shipp), is a criminalist in the Central City police department where he helps solve crimes using his brain instead of the daring do of his older brother and father before him.

I remember liking this show when it was on TV and was thinking about picking this up. That was untill I received a free 1 episode disc of The Flash with some other box set I bought. I could barely get through it. This show did not age well. Same thing happend when the He-Man cartoons came out. Some things are better left in the past.
Please think twice before spending your $ on this box set.
