DVD Player spins faster & faster, but never plays

My 2-year-old DVD player recently stopped playing any DVDs. Anytime a DVD is placed in the tray and closed, the player spins and spins the disk faster and faster and never stops. Has anyone else experienced this? Would a $20 DVD lens cleaner fix this type of problem, or is it more likely something mechanical or electronic?

This is no video or audio that comes out of the player? If so it sounds like the pickup is dirty or damaged. Unless it was a high dollar player, you should probably just replace it.
