jeez, Underworld is cleaning up. I hated the first one and can't see the appeal, but good for thems that like it, I guess.

Nice to see Underworld be about $8 million ahead of the number 2 film.

Yeah, that's a damn impressive # for Underworld. Other shockers: Fun With Dick & Jane will probably break $100 mil this weekend and Kong is already out of the Top 10.

I was hoping Brokeback would get a little bit more of a boost after the expanded screen count and the fact it was the #1 movie in the country from Tuesday - Thursday.

Well, looks like I was wrong about Dick and Jane, if you asked me 5 weeks ago, I would have had it pegged as making less than half what its made so far. Nice pull for Underworld 2 and nice lite-drops for Glory Road, Hoodwinked!, and Last Holiday. Brokeback Mountain expanded to over 1,000 theaters, and its per-theater average dropped, yet it still has the 2nd highest per-theater gross of the top 12 movies. Ang Lee now has two "surprise hits" under his belt (the first with CTHD).

Other notes:

These films benefited from Globe wins:

-Capote up 121% with $925,000 bringing the total to $14 million
-Walk the Line up 75% with $3.1 million pushing it past $102 million

It's not like it's a surprise that the favorite to win Best Picture has a high per screen average. I think we can safely say that it's per screen average will be high through March.

Looks like Chronicles of Narnia is going to outgross Harry Potter 4, domestically at least. I'm really kind of suprised it's doing so well.

Underworld: Evolution and End of the Spear are going to have huge drops come next weekend. The geeks front loaded Underworld and the religious right front loaded Spear. Underworld should make around $13 million next weekend and Spear probably will make around $2 million (maybe a little bit less).

Hoodwinked's legs will start to trip come next weekend as more family-oriented films begin opening. The drop won't be too drastic, probably around 25-30%. The same will happen with Glory Road and Last Holiday, however those drops will probably be more in the 40% (plus) range. I don't expect a massive drop for either Fun with Dick and Jane or Narnia as they've had legs since December.

Brokeback Mountain will have another boost and will probably have a weekend of around $9 million (give or take).

For the new films, Annapolis will have a nice chunk of box office change due to the teenage wallets and Nanny McPhee should do fairly decent. Big Momma's House 2, hopefully, is dead on arrival (as it deserves).

I still can't believe that Fun With Dick and Jane is still around. I avoided this like the plague because of all the horrific reviews it got, yet people are piling in to watch it.

I don't think Annapolis is going to open with a big number. Looks like more January crap.

I actually went and saw Dick and Jane a few weeks ago just due to the fact that it was doing fairly well at the box office and I thought I too could enjoy it. I was wrong.

It might be January, but those teenagers haven't been able to open up their wallets yet at the movie theaters. It might be able to do Coach Carter numbers.

You're forgetting Hostel. That was loaded with teens when I went.

And you think ANNAPOLIS is going to be the film that does it? I just don't see the same confidence in that film's BO performance.

As for DICK AND JANE, sorry everybody, but it seems some outside the message board world are liking the picture. It happens.

Annapolis is gonna be a dud. No one goes to see a James Franco film, the boy can't open a film.

Well I think it's going to do good numbers for January. If it was going to come out say in June, I wouldn't be going, "That James Franco film is going to blow some shit up at the box office this weekend."

And to tell you the truth, out of all my "real life" friends (that's sounds so fucking sad that I have to phrase it like that) who have seen Dick and Jane, none of them have liked it.

Never underestimate Big Momma's House 2...As much as I would like to see that die a horrible death, I think there are plenty of people who will pay top see it.

"Fun With Dick and Jane" was a lot of fun. I am glad it is doing much better than expected. I still hear it getting good word of mouth about it around work, so I think it will do even better on DVD.

"Annapolis" has a very bad trailer, I can't see it doing very well. Of course, I have been wrong before about a movie's box office potential. (For example, I thought Underworld 1 & 2 would tank.)

Of course I'm as biased as biased can be, but I'm thinking that Brokeback is about to start getting lots of repeat teenage girl business as well. Looks like that Titanic-style poster has done its work. Jake&Heath are the new Leo... Slash is getting huge suddenly, and MySpace is going crazy with Ennis-n-Jack 'shippers...
