I read the new edition of TV Guide and there is a story that if 20th Century FOX green lights the movie, the producers would like to shoot it as soon as Season 5 wraps production in the Spring. Then the plan would be for the movie to premiere before Season 6 starts in 2007 which would probably mean this Winter. Since the show probably begins production in July or August, that would literally mean no break for the cast and crew between now and Season 6.....Anyone think this scenario can actually happen?

There have been talk of the first hour being exposition and not in real time. But the second hour will be real-time. I hope this is how it plays out. Could be a really intense hour!

there has been talks of a movie for a long time now. As for the break. It would be possible to film it after production wraps for season 5 and still have some amount of down time before they start up.. if they start up for a new season.

Would it conclude season 5's plot? Introduce season 6's? Or exist on it's own? Combination of all three?
Don't think they were going for originality so much as just making a movie with Jack Bauer in the lead.
Plus, I always had a soft spot for Nick of Time.

I think the current plan is to spin the series(or at least the Jack Bauer character if the show keeps going without him) off into feature films once its run on TV is over.
I like the idea about the first hour being setup and the second hour taking place in real-time, but the show is better than almost any action/suspence flick out there right now, so they'll need to come up with something truly inspired to justify a big screen 24.

I think the 24 movie will probably introduce it's own plot and then when season 6 starts, they could make some references to what happened in the movie. It would be similar to what they did in the X-Files movie and when their season started after that. The shows producer Howard Gordon they think it's better to do the movie now than later. I also think Winter 2006 would be a great time to release it and get fans psyched up for Season 6 in 2007.

It would be a little difficult to understand since you have zero background knowledge of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and the hell he's gone through in the 5 years the show has been on.

I hadn't seen but one random episode of 24 previous to this season....then I made the mistakeo of watching the season premiere this year. And now I'm hooked!! Just added all the previous seasons to my Netflix queue.

True you don't get a full appreciation of Sutherland's character, and sometimes an episode will reference previous situations or characters in earlier seasons, but all the seasons are self-contained and definately don't require any past knowledge of the show. Just seeing it from the beginning allows you to get an idea of what the characters are capable of, and how much of a badass Bauer is.

I don't care if they stick to a real time format at all...the thought of Jack Bauer on the big screen is too awesome to pass up... I mean, 24 is edge of your seat, gritty entertainment week after week...on a TV show's budget....imagine what they could do with an ACTION FILM BUDGET... I mean, it could hypothetically blow everyone's fucking minds...plus, seeing Jack get a few "FUCKS" in there (verbally and physically - Audrey naked! Kim naked - not with Jack!) would be worth the $10 alone.

Yeah, he's a Co-Executive Producer, which probably means he gets a cut of the shows profits than having a creative say in the stories.
As long as he stays in the show (I heard at least 2 more seasons) and stars in the films, 24 will still rock! I also agree with an earlier post....for the stuff they pull off on a TV budget imagine a 24 feature film with a 60-70 million dollar budget!!! Whenever the film does come out, I think it will be awesome.
