I didn't want to start a new thread for this, so I'll put it here. I was at Best Buy today in Yorba Linda, CA, and they had a TON of those CD's they gave out with Seinfeld Seasons 5 and 6. They had so many in fact, that they had a sign with them that said FREE.

Basically they're giving them out now with anything, not just Seinfeld. This is a YMMV, but if you bought your Seinfeld sets elsewhere, and wanted one of these discs, now's your chance.

Just further proof there is NO reason to buy a movie the day it comes out unless you are the biggest fan of it. Look at how cheap some of this stuff is only mere months after release!

You are right, especially with BBY and CC who try to be competitive and do pricematching. However, I have a bunch of Suncoast and Borders gift cards that I need to use up. At those 2 stores the new release price (at Suncoast at least) is typically $19.99, and if you wait beyond the first couple weeks the price jumps to $22.99 or worse and usually stays there for half a year or more because they don't have the special sales that BBY and CC do. So for those who have credit to use up at these 2 stores, buying on release week seems to be the better choice. I have to find $40 at Borders or Amazon in the next week or my older gift card expires, and there's nothing I want to buy. I have learned not to buy new release at BBY and CC. $10 is the highest price I'll pay, and I have trouble paying $10 or even $7.50.

I'll be glad when I use up those gift cards. I tell people to get me BBY gift cards because the same amount of money goes further, but some people do not listen around Christmas, so you usually pay at least a 25% penalty on DVDs if you get a Suncoast or Borders gift card instead.

That's a few cents less after tax than I bought Star Trek Nemesis SE at DDD during their 20% off sale. I guess I can't feel too bad about a few cents. I am seriously beginning to agree with people that it usually pays to wait, and unless it's something people just have to have right away (or you have Suncoast or Borders gift cards you've got to use up) I suggest waiting until a movie drops under $10 which typically takes between a few weeks and 6 months. I was considering upgrading Ferris, Good Morning VN, and Dead Poets Society to the SEs, but at $11.99 and $12.99 I had to pass knowing they'll be sub-$10 soon.

I'm seriously hoping that enough people adopt the "never pay more than $10" strategy to teach them that people get wise to their tricks. If it's OK to sell a DVD at $9.99 a month after it was sold for $14.99 or $15.99, then in my opinion it should've been priced at $9.99 to begin with.

If you are so hip to their strategy, why not just wait the extra month then? I like saving money just as much as the next guy, but their strategy (price new items higher than older items), is nothing specific to their industry.

I say yes. However, I think I remember hearing that Jackson says the theatrical versions are his own preference.

It's up to you- do you want a concise story (er, reletively) or do you like to see as much detail as possible?

I second Bahgee.

The Theatricals provide a necessary blueprint to the trilogy. But a more whole, complete picture is formed watching the Extended Editions. ESPECIALLY, if you know the source material (books).

My business partner knows the books backwards / forwards and was amazed at how much the Theatrical versions left out for time consideration. He derived so much more pleasure and nuance from the Extended Editions.

I was awed by the Theatricals (not knowing the books) and was absolutely floored / stunned by the Extended Editions.

To me it's like comparing the flavor of hamburger to filet mignon.

Yes, they both stem from the same source but the latter is so much more FULLER / SATISFYING / RICHER.

Or just wait (in most cases) 3 months (some 6 months) and get them for an average of $4.34 (now with their b1g1 sale) to $5 something each through Columbiahouse (CH) as long as they are not Sony TV, Disney (and affiliates) or Fox distributing companies (plus maybe a few other minor companies). Makes you go through a few hoops to get the low averages, but if one is serious about saving money on DVDs it seems worth it to many of us.
I know it is a no-no to bring up CH on this part of the board, but I just thought it might be useful for some that are getting increasingly annoyed with B&M and online stores. Just my ¢2.

Oh, and thanks for the prices speedy! Really appreciate your time and effort put into this every week.

If you are so hip to their strategy, why not just wait the extra month then? I like saving money just as much as the next guy, but their strategy (price new items higher than older items), is nothing specific to their industry.

I'm not "so" hip to their strategy. It's just becoming more common across all the studios. I haven't paid more than $10 for anything for a while, except Underworld EE for $12.99 because it had a free movie ticket. I make an exception to the $10 rule for Suncoast and Borders gift cards because they expire after a while and they rarely have sales, so I have to pay more to use them rather than loose them.

A good suggestion which I have kept in mind. I have difficulty finding enough titles for enrollment, especially since I like a lot of Sony, Disney, and Fox, and I only buy a few DVDs each month, so it takes me a long time to get enough I want to justify another enrollment, plus it's difficult to time the B1G1F offers. I'm a member and didn't get a word of that sale, so you never know what your final price is before you start. If I bought more, it would be a different story.

Thanks again, Speedy!

I'm actuallly going to BB to buy something, first time in a while!
Land of the Dead (UR) will finally be mine...along with Full Metal Jacket. I might pick up a couple more of those 2 for $20.

Has anyone opened the Final Destination: Scared 2 Death Pack yet? I can't seem to find the movie cash. The bonus disc was in between the other two. The movie dvd's are individually sealed, so I didn't want to open them yet.

And thanks for the early prices speedy.
I picked up:
Unleashed - unrated
Fever Pitch - extended
Land of the Dead
Ong-Bak Thai Warrior
Team America - Unrated
The Jacket (got it since they were out of Longest Yard - WS)

It's mentioned on the very FIRST page of this thread.

It has been reviewed here at DVDTalk. (Probably still on the home page).

Yes, I see that it is mentioned on the first page of this thread. Hence my question. It does not exist in-store or on Amazon that I can find. The people at BB did not know what I was talking about.

I would have shown them the ad.

Or more simply put: It's a 3 pack of Bill Murray movies.

I'm really surprised that the BB employees don't have daily meetings to discuss their weekly ad / featured items.

Maybe you simply pull the 3 movies in question and bring them to the register and the computer adjusts them to equal $19.99 for the set.

Sometimes I cannot fathom how Best Buy does things.

That's not possible.

The three discs come in completely new packaging, in three sturdy slim cases in a card sleeve that simply lists the three titles without further elaboration.

This is not on Amazon, it's not on Best Buy's site, it doesn't seem to exist. I'm trying to find out if anyone has seen it.

I picked up the carlito's way 2 pack and two for the money in store. I went online and picked up longest yard, looney tunes: spotlight collection and team america unrated since they were absolutely wiped out from the current 2 for 20 titles in my area best buy store.

Anyone buying Two for the Money or Lord of War (single disc) can price match both to Circuit City's $14.99 each, saving $2 on each. I chose to PM TFTM and get the 2 disc LOW, making it $35 for both. If you're serious about getting a bargain on LOW, try your luck @ WalMart (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=452525).

I used a BB gift card, so WalMart wasn't worth spending cash instead.

I actually got this from Amazon for a slightly lower price after it was pointed out to me that the title of the boxset did not contain the words "Bill Murray".... It's actually listed under "Classic Comedies Collection." Nice choice.
