Audio Fiber Optic Cable Distance

New to the group, sure you have answered this before.
Have a logisticis problem with my DirectTV HD reciever/DRV and my audio system. The Direct TV reciever does'nt have a coxial audio out, only fiber and analog. I am about 35ft from the reciever to my A/V unit. Will fiber perform at that distance? Any idea on cost. Also, I have RG6 run between the two systems, is there such a thing as a fiber to coxial converter?
Thanks,

These guys seem to think a 50' fiber works ok.

Fiber to coax converters run about $15.

Optical doesn't have a fast rule for a distance rating. But it really isn't designed to go past around 35' without amplification. The existence of longer cables indicates that someone wants to sell them, not that they will work.

But I'm not saying it won't work, I've never tried. The 50' cable may be just fine. Perhaps a few more errors in the bitstream, but that's why there is error correction built in.
