What are some of the better car chase/crash movies?

My son is really into car chase/crash movies. He loves 2 Fast to Furious and sequal, Gone in 60 seconds etc... but there really does not seem to be too many out there like that, he is 12, btw so R rated is out of question. He also has seen Smokey and the Bandit and liked that so any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance...

Nothing is better than The Road Warrior! Oops, it is R-Rated though.

First thing that comes to mind is "The French Connection". R

"The Bourne Supremacy" also had a good chase.

I think he would enjoy The Italian Job (the remake) and The Transporter.

Are you suggesting the TNT/TBS cut of the film?

Hooper (PG)
Cannonball Run (PG)
Bullit (PG)
And any of the BMW Film series.

the chase in the shopping mall

edit: despite the rating, i can't think of anything in The Blues Brothers that a 12 year old shouldn't see. No nudity, no sex, no deaths, and maybe one or two "shits"

Let us not forget the chase scene in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" near the end.

I second that, along with Bourne Identity and The Italian Job (2003). The Island has a good freeway chase, too.

The Driver. $7.18 at DDD. From '78 and sTarring Ryan O'Neil, Review from www.filmcritic.com:

No names. Literally. The Driver is one of those films where no character's name is ever given, and its too-cool-for-school sentiment bleeds through the entire production. Ryan O'Neal is the title character, a heist getaway driver with mad skills like you wouldn't believe. (The scene where he proves his merit in a parking garage -- all but demolishing the ride along the way -- is worth the price of admission alone.) Sadly, there's a plot attached to this, with Bruce Dern the cop who's always one frustrating step behind the driver, but this movie excels so greatly during its chase scenes that you'll forget about all that business.
And DVDTalk's review:

The Driver has the best and most extensive car chases I have seen.

Let's not forget Steve McQueen's Bullitt - It's PG but some parts might be a bit boring for him.

To Live and Die in L.A. is considered to be one of the best.
