Bjork catalog to be re-released in 5.1!

great news. I own em all, but I will for sure re-buy them for the 5.1

from her website:

Happy times are ahead of 5.1 audio-philes, as mixing of all of Björk's albums has been completed in Iceland by Björk and P-Dub working the console. P-Dub previously worked with Björk on the mixing of the Drawing Restraint 9 soundtrack. In conversation with bjork.com Björk said she was extremely happy and excited with the results of these mixes of the albums.

We can start re-discovering these albums when they are released and the release dates are set for early next year, hopefully March 2006. We might get a limited edtion in box set, yeah!

Got a question for Bjork fans. What dvds would you say are MUST HAVES of hers? I just bought the Medulla videos which I love, and just ordered her live at cambridge and live at the royal opera house. I love Bjork's music videos, but did not order any of them because I own the directors series label, which features quite a few bjork videos. I would sorta be paying for a bunch of videos I already own. So what dvds of hers would you reccomend I buy (I'm a big fan) and which would you reccomend I rent?

I'd recommend "Live at Cambridge". It's from her Homogenic tour and she's in fine form. And if you haven't already, you should definitely get "Greatest Hits" (used to be "Volumen"), which has all her older videos.

I'd love to hear these albums in 5.1, but not sure if I wanna go through the process of re-purchasing them. It was hard enough upgrading my Dylan catalogue, as well as getting those damn Elvis Costello CD's for a third time! Maybe I'll just wait for the next format.

And cardboard covers, no doubt.

Reissues in digipacks suck.

The ultimate Bjork live DVD is by far Bjork Vespertine - Live at Royal Opera House. It is exceptionally good.

more info from pitchfork:

Dave Maher reports:
Just when you think you've seen it all and it seems oh so quiet on the reissue front, Rhino Records goes and puts together another box set. And who is it but Björk, coming to you in all of her big time sensuality with every single one of her albums, from her 1993 Debut to last year's original soundtrack to Drawing Restraint 9 (a film collaboration with her "life partner", Matthew Barney), all remastered and gussied up for the pleasure of your headphones.

Like someone in love, the box set--which will be released June 27 and titled, simply Surrounded--only wants you to be violently happy. Thus, all seven albums (including Selmasongs, the soundtrack to Björk's star turn, Dancer in the Dark, which is like Crossroads but super depressing) are being released as DualDiscs with all of the videos for each album featured as bonus tracks on the DVD sides.

These bonuses include videos directed by the likes of Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, and as "Ren and Stimpy" creator (!) John Kricfalusi. The DVD side of the Drawing Restraint 9 soundtrack also includes a bonus cut called "Petrolatum".

Paul "PDub" Watson oversaw the 5.1 surround sound remixing, and with a name like "PDub", it's pretty much guaranteed to turn out well. If it doesn't, we ask that you show forgiveness.

Since you already know what the CDs look like, here are the DualDisc tracklists. Enjoy!

I agree.

Rhino did the recent Talking Heads 5.1 reissues, didn't they? I ended up buying them from Amazon.co.uk because they were two-disc CD/DVD sets in jewelcases, rather than DualDiscs in cardboard. I think it ended up costing me about $7 more, total, for eight CDs. And the DVDs are NTSC, Region 0, so they're perfectly playable in the U.S.

It's definitely the way I'll go with Bjork if the circumstances are similar.

Well the dvd-audio version of Vespertine made me a bjork fan all on its own. The quality audio wise isnt pure dvd-a but the 5.1 mix is ungodly and fits bjorks music to a tee. It will blow you away, especially if you are already a fan.

Maybe with a good coupon it would be decent from Borders.

With that 30% coupon that is floating around for Borders, it comes out to a little over $90.

So at this point I'm sure a whole bunch of you have picked it up? How are the mixes? Worth owning? I love Bjork to death but can say unfortunately I only have two of her albums (Medulla and Selmasongs) but this would be the perfect chance to own them all and, of course hear them in the awesomeness that is 5.1

Not to mention I'm a best buy employee and it's listed here for 115, but I get it for 83. Time to count my nickles!

Vespertine and Medulla both are already in dvd-audio lossless format, which is why Im a little more than pissed with this release. The mix for vespertine is amazing its so good in fact its what made me a bjork fan. I joined her website and bought 4 or 5 of her dvd concerts because of that one dvd-audio.

Well the individual releases are out soon too, so you can just get the other's if you want, I think this is what I will do, just buy debut, post and homogenic dualdiscs.
