Firefly/Serenity ?'s

Having not seen either of them, I had a couple of questions:

1) Is it really necessary to see 'Firefly' before watching 'Serenity'? Are they tied in, or will the average watcher stil "get" it?

2) Are both worth blind buys? I read somewhere on the site that 'Firefly' was going to be available for under $20 at WalMart after Christmas (some places already have it for that price)

I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't seen either. Every time I've asked this question or seen it asked, the general consensus is: it isn't necessary to have seen FF first, but it is recommended, if you have the time.

Do we need a FAQ in here?

No. You'll appreciate it more, but it is not essential. The film is structured to appeal to both groups.

It's certainly subjective, but I believe so. If the cost were more, I may be inclined to recommend seeing Serenity first as a test to whether you'll like the series, but at $20, of course it's worth it. They've both received a significant majority of positive reviews, so odds are you'll like them, and if not, they are currently the #1 and #3 selling DVD titles at Amazon.com, so I doubt you'll have a hard time unloading them.

This is probably true. As such, I'm closing this thread.
