Fun with Dick and Jane - quick review

Thankfully, the funny bits are not just what's featured in the trailer. But comedy is subjective, so if you like Jim Carrey comedies, or Judd Apatow screenplays (this was co-written with 2 other writers), you'll get some laughs from it.

There are some good laughs, mainly in the 2nd act of the film, just stuff that struck me funny (and many people in the audience). Jim Carrey does get to cut loose here and there, and the brisk pace of the film works to its advantage. The conclusion (don't forget to read the dedication credit which formed the inspiration for the film) did not overstay its welcome and everything ended up as well as it could given the state of Dick and Jane's affairs.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

I think I'll just go watch the original instead (which I absolutely love) The trailers just don't make this new one look that great. Nice review, though.

For those who have seen both, how does this one compare to the original?

Never even knew there was one before until a few days ago. This one was good. Not as funny as Bruce Almighty but worth the price admission.

I'll second that. Let's add this movie to the should not have been remade file.

I liked it. I saw a free preview yesterday. I don't think it was great. I'd say definately not worth your $10, but certainly worth a rental. It may be a decent matinee.

It's basically a light comedy. There are plenty of funny moments, but because a few too many jokes fall flat, I think it hurts the film overall. The credits were hilarious though.

It isn't Jim's funniest movie, but I was still laughing my ass off for most of the movie so I am very glad I saw it.

I didn't care much for it... It tried hard to be funny but more often than not it felt as if it were just going through the motions. There are definetely some funny moments and I laughed out loud a couple times but even at 90 minutes the whole affair was a stretch. Perhaps if it were more clever with what it was hinting at saying about greed in the modern era it would have been more easy to go down.

Judd Apatow co-wrote the screenplay? How much involvement did he have?

I just saw it and it's not as good as the original, but I still liked it. I give it 3½ stars outta 5
