My Thoughts:

1. Looks like he is using reenactors, not screen actors.
2. Which dead ancient language is Gibson using this time?
3. Can't wait to see all the crazy nose piercings and the naked, pregnant natives

Check the trailer out about 1:46 into it. An interesting shot inserted into the trailer.

He's funny.

He looks like Mr. Edwards from Little House now.

At first I thought that pic was a joke.......until I re-watched the trailer and saw it for myself. I can't believe he did that but I do think it's pretty damn funny.

Making a gazillion dollars on your last film means that you can do something crazy and people will call it brilliant.
But I do think that stunt is pretty funny.

You must have known about that beforehand. I probably watched that couple second part of the trailer 10 times and couldn't see Mel in it. It just flashed by so fast. Obviously if you pause it it's plain as day, but I don't see how anybody could notice that simply by watching the trailer without knowing that it's in there.

When I go the the site and click on a trailer size, all I get is a broken QuickTime icon or a message saying the movie has a "bad public movie atom."

Whaaaaa???

That trailer didn't do much for me. Too many running in the jungle shots. Too bad since I was really looking forward to this one.

Looks really good. Really looking forward to this movie. It looks like they are hunting that guy running in the forest.

The movie's all in a foreign language, so the trailer was cut not to include any dialogue whatsoever. I think that plus the likelihood that filming may not be complete means that they were really limited in what footage they could use for a trailer. The trailer definitely raised my interest level.

Considering the fact that I don't think Apocalypto is going to do not even half the business The Passion of the Christ did (which I'm sure Gibson probably has made over a billion dollars off of at this point since any studio that released the film got shafted), Gibson might as well be crazy while has continues to have the money to produce his own films.

Then again, if rumors are true and the budget of this film is only around $40-50 million (and with Buena Vista paying all of the advertising and distribution costs), then Gibson can probably direct a boatload of films of him doing whatever the hell he pleases.

I hope in his next movie he's leather-clad with a sawed off shotgun hunting post-apocalyptic barbarians

I don't think he made a billion. That's got to be a stretch. By the time all was said and done, he had to split the money with studios, plus he had to pay a distribuition fee. The distribution fee would have been drop in the bucket. The film made just shy of 612 million dollars. I don't know if profits from international dollars are handled the same as domestic profits, but if we assume he made 60% off the earnings of the film, then he made 367 million dollars. If it ended up at 50%, he made 306.

Either way, it's a far cry from a billion. I'm not sure if you were exaggerating or not. Either way, Mel doesn't have enough to continue on indefinitely unless his films make money. Though it seems he's intent on making films with a 50-60 million dollar budget. In that case, he can make quite a few more films, even if they don't make any money.

I'm a Mel fan, so if he can keep his independence, that's fine by me.

Isn't the movie about the Aztecs and not the Maya?

I'm sitting here thinking about that shot of him in the trailer...that is just incredibly funny. Ainticool.com gave up that info when they first mentioned the trailer, When I found it I was dying laughing. Looking at it again it makes me chuckle. Just too funny. What a clown.
