They need to do this especially on PRV DVDs. They are running out of room. $8.33 per used DVD just doesn't cut it anymore.

I think they are already doing it to some select titles. Picked up Ocean's Twelve and Blade Trinity for $4.99 each at a SoCal BBV near me. OT had a few scratches but Blade looked like it wasn't even opened.

Sounds fishy to me. I'll have to wait and see, but I'll most likely be there soon.

I received these coupons in the mail last week. I'm a Rewards Member. :D

If aaannnyone can verify, please do, because I won't hesitate to be there at opening on the 23rd.

How do you become a rewards member?

That's their frequent rental program. Pay $9.95 a year and you get a FREE rental (non-new realease) with every new release rental (Monday - Wednesday). You also get a FREE rental after every 5 rentals within the same month. You also get a monthly mailing that includes a coupon for a FREE non-new release rental.

i dont want to start a new thread for this but i was at blockbuster yesterday and they were selling previously viewed dvds for 4.99 which is barely above the price that they rent for. seems kinda strange.

FWIW, a local franchise does this twice a year here. So it may not be an official corporate sale.

Agreed. My BBV is bursting at the seams with previeweds. I used to think I was "scoring" when I'd get a previewed new release for $10, but as you say, that doesn't cut it anymore. The pricing of DVD's has changed enough that BBV really has to try to price them around $5 to $7 regularly to move these.

Other than when I did "score" an OOP 2-disc Sleeping Beauty the other day at BBV for $10, I just don't buy previeweds anymore for $10 and up.

That is only for about 10 titles like The Aviator, Ray, Blade Trinity, Million $ Baby, Ocean Twelve, Open Water, The Forgotten, White Noise.....

My local blockbuster has been doing this for rewards members for the last three weeks or so, additionally, the deal runs until Dec 30 at my local store.

I've already purchased five or so dvds with this deal.

true but why would anyone rent those when they could buy it for only 50 cents more. and they were right next to the checkout line.

good point... well, when you buy, you tend to think you own it and watch it whenever you like. Of course, you pop a PVd DVD in the player, just to check it loads or not, but you don't watch it... After 30 days, you realized, crap! the darn thing don't play all the way! oh well... at least with rental, you are "foreced" to watch it :)

Because Blockbuster overstocked on these titles, they would rather just clear them out of the store than collect e few extra rental fees.

Confirmed with my Blockbuster tonight that this isn't true. :(

I have called 3 separate stores in the Chattanooga, TN area and NONE of them have heard of this promotion. If I were to guess this promo is NOT a national sale and YMMV so call b4 you go as you do not want to waste a trip.

i've heard twice today on the radio (in the Macon, Ga area) that this weekend Friday and Saturday only all pre. viewed movies and games will be half off

I get off work early on Friday, so I'll swing by the blockbuster in my area to check. :)

Sorraffy
12-22-05, 06:09 PM
it's probably worth at least a check, i mean if you called Media Play a few weeks ago people probably would have said nothing about a nationwide closing, so some stores may not have been informed yet or just not participating. My guess at it

Well, it's December 23, anyone check this out yet?

RonBoster
12-23-05, 01:11 PM
yes, and the two bb's I went to did not know about it nor have it. BB sales info is about as good as walmart.....too much of YMMV to make it worth starting a thread.

not only that, but if you are a "Rewards" member you get one for free. I scored a mint condition "The Aviator" 2-Disc for free! They only have a select few titles that are $4.99. Some of them are:
"The Grudge" (WS, not Unrated, I think)
"The Aviator" (2-Disc)
"Blade Trinity" (Unrated)
"Open Water"
"Ocean's Twelve"
"The Forgotten"
"White Noise"

maybe 1 or 2 others...

No sales here in Central New Jersey, but I did get South Park Season 5, Home Movies Season 1, and Hitchcock's The Birds for $25. Only after having a tiff with the tough guy manager about "Ask associate for details" not being good enough proof that boxed sets weren't included (went back after he got off to get them)

Reynolds
12-23-05, 06:04 PM
Safe to say that this is pretty much regional. Nothing here at the blockbuster in Corvallis, OR. However, I did get a new sealed copy of Halo 2 for xbox for 9.99. Granted it's not a DVD deal, but I was happy.

They should have a sign somewhere in the store (on the counter or taped to the door) that has these details. The last time I looked the details were basically this: Sale excludes any dvds $19.99 and up. No more than 2 copies of any single title. No more than 20 PVDs per customer, per visit.

I was at my local BB last night and they had several titles for $4.99 like the grudge etc and lots more marked at 2 for $12, this is a non gamerush store in DFW

Went to one in Richardson, TX and they didn't have any such sale advertised. I didn't find anything interesting there anyways.

The sale was on where I'm visiting, in Tennessee. Lots of signs throughout the store. In addition to the 50% off previously viewed, the employees were giving out $2 off coupons for new DVDs.

Thanks for that info! I gave him a fair chance to show me anything, a sign, a flyer, a scribbled on piece of paper, anything, but he couldn't find anything so started spurting the "I run the store, I make the rules" runaround. I'll keep an eye out for the signs now, but if no one can show me anything, I'll defend my consumer right to buy as advertised.

Went to one in Tustin Ranch,California...they had 3 for $25 only pv
