I loved this movie, but I'm not paying $30+ for that 2-disc. I'll settle for 1 disc.

Completely agree. That is the biggest "Fuck You" from DVD companies to their loyal consumers.

Will give it a rent and if I like it, buy it during the summer DDD sale. Looked really good though.

Excellent film with award-worthy performances by Gyllenhaal (who'll get an Oscar for Brokeback) and Sarsgaard (who shoudld get nommed, especially after two years of snubs).

2-disc for me.

But where the hell's the DTS? Universal used to be EXCELLENT with DTS, nowadays, it seems like a miracle if one is included.

How exactly is a two-disc set a "fuck you" to the consumer? Last time I checked, the home video industry was still a business and not a charity.

If you can't afford a two- or three- or four-disc set, don't buy it. It's just that simple.

Besides, these multiple DVD sets are sometimes so under priced it's ridiculous. When you gladly paid $125 for a Criterion laserdisc box set back in the day, $40 for a two- or three-DVD set is peanuts.

Is a big "fuck you" the way Universal does it. I will gladly pay for 2-disc editions the way Warner Home Video does it, where the 1-disc has a retail price of $27.99 and a 2-disc $29.99 and then retailers sell the with $2-$6 dollar difference. I will gladly pay a premium for a Criterion 2 disc, because I know that they most likely don't own the film and have to pay licensing fees and because they put effort in the release of whatever film they work. but Universal is greedy. They want to charge a huge premium to the DVD fans who put them on the map, who are their target market for their 2 disc editions. The price difference between the regular edition and the deluxe edition of Ray is absurd. The 2-disc price almost doubles the one of the regular edition.

I never understood the logic of comparing the pricing of DVDs to Laserdisc. DVDs are now part of the mainstream media and laserdisc were not; that is why DVD sales are huge. Laserdiscs had more productions cost that what DVDs ever had. And because Laserdiscs prices were so huge is the reason that I prefered VHS and I think that is also the reason why they were never popular to begin with. Bottom line is that just because laserdiscs prices were up the $100, doesn't justify when companies decide to put higher prices on multiple disc sets and what Universal studios is doing with their pricing schemes of 2-disc set is called GREED.

I agree with those comments. But you also have to realize that "greed" is behind every person, every business venture and every company, including - surprise - Hollywood.

Frankly, I get more pissed off at the price of school books than I do DVDs. Higher education is a shakedown if I ever saw one!

Probably just a rental for me when it comes out. I wasn't all that thrilled with the movie. I will check it out again though just to be sure.

Nice to see the artwork looks exceptional. To Universal's credit though, their 2-disc sets like To Kill A Mockingbird and Cinderella Man are really nice packages.

Dammit, Patrick, you got my hopes up that the film's trailers would be on the disc(s).
