Remington Steele........ the movie

From mi6.co.uk

http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?itemid=3121

Pierce Brosnan is in talks for a film based on the television series that lost him the James Bond role in 1987 - Remington Steele. But Brosnan eventually got his Bond role in 1995 for "GoldenEye", and now four-times 007 is now discussing bringing his first major role to the big screen after leaving Her Majesty's Secret Service.

According to Contact Music, Brosnan has started negotiations to make a movie adaptation of his hit 80s TV show.

Brosnan shot to fame in the American series in the 1980's, and believes the big-screen remake will become a huge box office hit.

Brosnan reveals, "The show is out on DVD so we have started negotiations to make a film. There's a sentimental memory and fondness for it."

What a complete waste of time this would be.

Never gonna happen. They could never afford Stephanie Zimbalist at her current asking price.

Stephanie was never an "A" list movie actress. She's basically been a just TV actress. Plus, she's almost 50. I don't think her asking price is all that high. While Pierce Brosnan might draw viewers to the theater I don't think Stephanie will. I could see this film more as a TV movie event.

I think that Fielding Mellish was being sarcastic.

This is awkward.

I really like the TV show and wouldn't mind seeing this, if 1) they could get the original cast including James Read, and 2) the story/mystery of who Remington Steele really is, is brought to a conclusion.

Then they could go from there to make other RS movies as a sort of "contemporary Thin Man" series.

That would be about the only reason I could think of them doing it... anything else would just be a waste of time IMHO.

I don't see how this works. If they make it without Zimbalist (a likely scenario), they'll piss off just about everyone who knows anything about the series, and I'll be the first in line to boycott it. But she's almost 50. Unless it's a TV movie, how do you market a sly 80's noir romance caper series with two 50 year-old leads? I adore the series, but this seems up there with remaking The A-Team without George Peppard.

I've been watching the new boxsets of the original series and thought the same thing, clear up the mystery and then start globe trotting since Steel is considered the world's greatest detective. It would make an interesting series of films with big name guests as well. I'd for sure see the first one.

Why bother? Pierce'll just end up being replaced by the third movie [co-starring Halle "Yo Mama!" Berry].

Regarding Ms. Zimbalist (and, uh, sorry about the confusion, Mike45), I see she hasn't done anything since an indie thriller in 2001... directed by ex-Monkee Mickey Dolenz!

Man, I had a crush on her as a kid.

or Dorris Roberts who went on to Everybody Loves Raymond fame.

Bad idea!

By the way, what ever happened to Zimbalist?

After RS went off the air in 1987, SZ started starring in "Made For Lifetime" TV movies, and stayed pretty busy at it --logging one or two TV movies a year until 1998.

Along the way, she would also make occasional appearances as a guest star on episodic TV.

Since the late 1990s, SZ has devoted more of her time to stage work.

No biography I find of her mentions SZ ever marrying or having any children.

Photo of SZ in her late 40s -->

And back in the day -->

Gawd, she was sexy! Remember how she had freckles all over chest.

On a side note, Pierce Brosnan is reprising his role as Thomas Crown in the movie "The Topkapi Affair". So far, Rene Russo has not been listed in the cast.

I wonder if they realize that this movie will induce more tears than excitement if it ever got made.
