the most advanced looking graphics yet

Some people think that this is what the next generation is going to look like (post ps3 and such).

So what context is that image created in? Is that something current PCs are capable of generating for a still shot? If so, how long does it take to render the image?

I'd like to see something like that in motion. A character model like that could get past the current almost realistic zombie characters, but only if it moves and behaves in a realistic way.

Personally I'd guess that'd be a PS5 generation of graphics.

I agree with Gallant Pig. Graphics of that calibur are still at least 2 generations away, if not greater. I just don't see that kind of leap being made from where the PS3/360 are right now.

here is a pic of what Fight Night Round 3 is supposed to look like (probably be the same thing that happened with Madden, I assume):

After that picture, though, I still think next generation is still possible with the first 2 screens.

I have no interest in playing games that have graphics like those. I can only imagine how much motion sickness I will get.

I doubt Fight Night will look like that.

The next generation of consoles won't even able to render Toy Story in real time, and that pics a huge step away from Toy Story.

I'll have a hard time keeping my interest in gaming if games get that photo realistic as it would probably kill the more cartoony and artistic graphical style that I enjoy the most.

I can't wait to see what kind of Blast Processing hardware manufacturers use to justify new consoles every five years a decade from now.

Truthfully, I sort of hope I will just stop gaming when I turn 25 and had quit for a couple of years now but the Revolution got me excited and have been obsessed with it since it was announced and all this Nintendo hoopla made me buy a 3rd gamecube with the sweet Mario Party 7 deal. I hope next generation is the last.

The first 2 pics just look like pictures or screen caps from a movie.

There is a huge difference between a rendered shot and a fluid game in motion. I agree that this is probably 2 generations down the line.

I think as far as human renderings go, I don't think I want something like the first image. I don't believe in games warping somebody's mind, but can you imagine a war game or GTA where you are killing something that looks that real? I'm not sure I want my games that realistic. But as far as racing, alien or other games where human killing is not involved, I'm down.

Exactly Michael, when you can't tell the difference between real and fake as far as video games are concerned FPS type games take on a whole new disturbing meaning. I can only imagine what a 5-6 year old who would undoubtedly be playing these games due to lack of parenting, will grow up to be like.

You guys do realize that many official publicity screenshots put out by companies like EA are touched up and captured at a higher resolution to look better than the actual gameplay you'll be playing. Look at Madden 360 for an example.

That said I don't think we'll be seeing those kinds of graphics until at least 4 or 5 generations from now unless some kind of miracle processor comes out. It's still not even possible to render close to CG quality cutscenes in real time, though they get closer each time. But to be honest I'd rather play more surreal or cartoony games than realistic.

Yeah, realistic cars look sexy ... but beyond that, I greatly prefer stylized games. Realistic faces/people offer no enjoyment for me.

I had similar thoughts when i opened this thread. But then again I'm sure I'll get used to them.
