The Office: UK/USA Showdown, Part III - Dawn vs. Pam
Help the Wernham-Hogg/Dunder-Mifflin Human Resources Department create The Ultimate Office Staff.
After the currently lopsided showdown between Finchy vs. Packer in the last round, it's now back to a major character. And this time it's one of the show's most beloved people...Dawn vs. Pam.

This one is tough. I love them both; Dawn is wittier...Pam is more fun. I know this isn't fair to Pam, but I have to vote for Dawn even if it's only for the way the Dawn/Tim relationship was resolved...a CLASSIC TV moment.

Dawn. The Jim/Pam relationship feels a little forced to me, and the way Pam responds to it just isn't as endearing. I really felt for Dawn and wanted her to find happiness as much as Tim. I don't have a problem with Pam, but I also don't care that much one way or the other either.

Gotta go with Dawn. I like the Pam character all right, but she is too unnaturally stiff to be really believable. I suppose it could be said it is due to the presence of the cameras in the office (the pseudo-documentary). But generally speaking her personality just isn't very deep when compared to Dawn's. That being said, Pam has got that "plain girl who's actually hot" thing going for her.

I voted for Dawn if for no other reason than that dress she wore to the Christmas party in the series finale.
I do like Pam and Jenna Fischer is a major hottie, but for the time being I feel that Dawn is the stronger character.

I voted for Pam. First time voting for a US character. I see why Tim is attracted to Dawn. I am attracted to Pam. Watched the first episode of Undeclared last night and Jenna Fischer has a bit part as a senior who says she won't go to the guys' party.

I'm gonna have to think on this one a while. I like them both pretty well. Dawn was first, she's funnier, and she was in Shaun of the Dead. Pam is slightly more attractive, more depressed, and has a lot more potential. If only Pam would go on holiday in Florida and show us herself in a binkini, we might have a clear winner.
I'll have to vote later.

I voted for Pam. I really liked Dawn on the show, but it was more a "I see how someone like Tim could fall for her" thing. With Pam, I'm the one who has fallen for her. I'm right there with you Jim.

Without reducing the question to who's hotter, I'd have to choose Dawn as my favorite of the two. I admit Pam is cuter, but her character, while amusing, doesn't bring the depth that Dawn brought us. Sure Pam's hiding her feelings for Jim, but do we know that from her, or is she benefiting from the tracks that Dawn has laid for her? We learn more about Pam's feelings for Jim in her mother's brief appearance than we ever do from Pam. We see her jealousy a few times, but I don't feel the connection or struggle like I did with Dawn... Jim carries most of the weight in establishing that, himself. Pam is a playful sidekick, Dawn was the witty accomplice.

I love both shows but when each of these head to head comparisons come up I find myself being drawn back to the British character each time. They all feel more like real people and not sitcom characters, and I connected with them more because of it. I do still love the American version though.

Based on the Tim/Jim angle: Dawn
but I'm going to judge them on a different relationship. The boss. It is "the office," after all, a job where they are secretaries to an annoying people. In that regard I give the edge to Pam. Her looks, comments and the way she handles/disregards Michael is much funnier to me.
