"Perfect Strangers" favorites set coming in 2006

Warner Home Video is asking fans for their favorite six episodes of Perfect Strangers for an upcoming "TV Favorites" set. See this page at TV Shows on DVD. They point you to this thread on the forums of Sitcoms Online where you can post your choices for the set. As the original poster observes, if it this sells well enough, season sets may not be far behind.

I wonder if this is going to be a Best Buy exclusive as they have already done a Welcome Back, Kotter -- The Drew Carey Show -- and I forget what else. They have 6 episodes each.

Some of my personal favorites:

Balki is hypnotized into thinking he is Elvis.

Cousin Bartok (Bronson Pinchot in a dual role) visits from California.

Balki's mama (dual role again) comes to the U.S. intent on taking Balki back home. I think that's a 2-parter.

Probably the one where Mr. Twinkasetti calls Balki, " Turnipp " , and when Larry drinks the antacid from the bottle.

"America, land of the free, home of the Hooper!"

Remember the episode where Balki and Larry pulled a "Weekend at Bernies'" on that guy who visited from Mypos who died?

I liked this show as a kid, but it might be total crap now. I'll pick up the preview disc if its cheap to reacquaint myself.

Wasn't this a mid-season replacement show for the '85 - '86 season? Season sets (if any) would probably begin with a 1&2 combo pack.

That was the Myposian King. I think I have that on an old VHS someplace.

Well since the first season of Perfect Strangers was only 6 episodes, whey don't they just release the first season to "test the waters?"

Anyhoo, I would like to see the 2 part final episode and the episode where Larry has a dream that he and Balki cannot be hurt or killed.

I liked the one where Balki wanted to do something and then Larry brow beat him for never having done that thing before. That was a good one.

That one's almost as good as the "Three's Company" episode where someone overhears a conversation and jumps to conclusions.

Weird. I thought I had seen all of the episodes of Three's Company but I don't remember that one. Which season was it on?

That was a ref to Balki's mother mispronouncing "Whopper."

I typically would not purchase a "best of" compilation, knowing that season sets with the same content were on their way, but I would consider an exception in this case. (With only six episodes, it couldn't cost much.) Loved Larry and Balki back in the day, and know I still would today. Have perhaps three or four seasons worth of episodes on tape from original and syndicated broadcasts. Been waiting for this a long time.

As for which ones to include, I'm not totally sure. There are too many I want, it's difficult to narrow them down. But I definitely second Xbox69's suggestion: when Lydia's hypnotist date makes Balki believe he is Elvis. Really hope this sells well enough to show the studio there is a market for Perfect Strangers.

Oh--and I don't recall Balki's mother ever pronouncing "whopper" incorrectly. If I'm not mistaken, the joke was simply that, to her, America meant "Home of the Whopper."

i can only remember one scene from the episode where larry goes on a diet and is hiding food all around the house, and balki finds a donut hidden on a lamp shade.

I might suggest voting for episodes from the later seasons. This way when they do release season sets, it will be a while before we get those. And if they discontinue season sets after the 3rd or 4th season, you would still have the best of filled with later episodes.

There's a reason to hate Perfect Strangers....

If we didn't have Perfect Strangers, we would've never known what a "Steve Urkel" is.
