Hola. So I'm trying to find a couple books to buy as Christmas gifts for a friend of mine. The problem is, she's not very good with titles and I'm not at all familiar with the ones she's looking for. I tried a google search, but didn't see anything sifting through the results. So I thought I'd come here and see if anyone was familiar with either of these. They're supposedly children's books.

The first involves a guy who plays a fiddle and comes out of the ground where he was going to be eaten by little black men.

The second involves a girl who takes a monster in from the rain and keeps him in her basement, where he proceeds to eat all of her pickles.

Odd, I know. But she's been looking for these for a long time and I'd like to get them for her, if that's possible.

Then again, maybe these are both figments of her imagination. Anybody have any ideas?

I selled used books.. so I took special interest in your thread to try to figure out what the hell she is requesting..

The only thing I was able to dig anything up on was the monster book. This is what I found:

If the monster book isn't the right one, it's damn close.. :) I vaguely remember this book from my childhood.

Well, there's no mention of pickles or rain, but it sounds close enough to me. For $4, I'll give it a shot. If it's not the right one, well, I won't let her childhood nightmares dictate my shopping habits anymore.

Thanks a lot for your help. It is much appreciated. With so many views and no responses, I thought I was gonna have to get her socks or a tuba or something.

Wasn't there a book called The Hungry Thing where they have a monster and feed it all sorts of stuff. Pickles for sure, but also lots of other foods. I don't remember where they kept it.

Just searched for it.. looks like "The Hungry Thing" is fed by villagers. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0439275989/dvdtalk/qid=1134648477/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-2182467-7349532?v=glance&s=books&n=507846" target="_blank">The Hungry Thing</a>

I don't think it's The Hungry Thing cuz she said it involves a little girl, and it's more likely the aforementioned No More Monsters For Me!. So I went ahead and ordered that one. :fc:

Just an update: No More Monsters For Me! was indeed the right one. She was so happy she cried.

Special thanks to teamwinfan for the legwork! Much appreciated.
