Question for those that saw the interpreter, possible spoilers

I just rented this and haven't seen it before and about 3/4 through, right before the ending the movie starts skipping. I take out the disc and it's all smudged up. Can someone tell me what happens?

I got to the point where the secret servive is waiting for her at the airport and the zummaie guy is just entering the building. He just road past the street with all the protesters. After that it cuts out.
