Wow, extremely impressive opening day for Chronicles of Narnia.

Agreed. Leesmovieinfo had it pegged for about $45m for the full weekend.

Kind of expected it after last night though, all but 2 showings were sold out here.

Memoirs of a Geisha had an impressive $28,482 per theater, as well. Brokeback had an even more impressive $38,309 per theater.

Brokeback Mountain with some awesome numbers. Can't wait to see it.

I can't tell if Syriana's numbers are good or not for the number of screens its playing on.

I think once Memoirs goes wider, the gross is going to be less impressive especially with the terrible word-of-mouth the film is getting.

Brokeback, I don't know. I don't know how the mainstream is going to accept a film about a love story between two men.

Whatever you do don't say that in the Brokeback thread.

What Matthew wrote is perfectly understandable. Your repeated comments about how "I have no interest. I am not gay" in a Brokeback Mountain thread is not. That's just flame baiting.

wow! such a differnence between 1st and 2nd. i've never seen such a disparity before. but, LWW would need a big box office to cover its' $180 million price tag.
way to go "Walk The Line"! talk about being in the black.

20 million isn't a very big difference. Harry Potter beat Walk The Line by 80 million just 2 weeks ago :p

Now I am a heterosexual and in no way homophobic. I want to see Brokeback Mountain for quite a few reasons, such as I want to see Ang Lee redeem himself for the shitfest known as Hulk and I want to see Anne Hathaway naked again (because every movie could use that). However, just because I'm straight doesn't mean I'm going to avoid it because I'll catch teh gay by it.

I have no clue how the mainstream is going to react to it. I was having a conversation with my mom and a commercial for the flick came out the television during it. I mentioned to her how it's getting tons of rave reviews and she goes, "Why would anyone want to see two guys be gay together?" Now my mom is not only a liberal, but votes in support of gay marriage. Yet, she had that response to the film.

So as I said, this film I am completely clueless about how it's going to preform outside of major citites.

Since this is doing pretty well at the box office right now, is it realistic to think that "Prince Caspian" might not be too far behind? I remember reading that Dinsey wanted to wait to see how this did, before going ahead with #2.

Please make all 7!!!!!!!

It's not Disney's decision. It's Walden Media's decision. ;)

And I believe a $24 million opening day take makes a sequel official. :)

I was listening to the radio yesterday, and the president of whatever company owns the rights said that the next in the series is a for sure. Any future installments depend on box office take.

I hope Syriana has some legs. Those avg. numbers for Brokeback Mountain are outstanding.

I would like to see Walk the Line crack 100.

Wow...7 out of the top 10 I am planning to buy on DVD.

1) Narnia- A given- and if this ever gets the rumored Extended Edition treatment like the Lord of the Rings did, I would jump on that like J.Lo in a thong.

BY the way, what is up with the "The Hobbit"? Any news on this? I really want this one to get done. I think I heard New Line owned the rights, but United Artists owned the Publishing. Not sure if that's right though.

It's been pretty quiet on The Hobbit front...you'd think with a practically guaranteed take of 750mill (or more) worldwide they could find some way to split the profits...but appearantely not. Ian isn't getting any younger, so I hope they can do it within the next five yrs or so. Maybe with LWW's success (so far) that will spur on discussions again...

Solid take for LWW, hopefully it'll crack 200mill demostically, and 500-600 worldwide.

Nice numbers for Narnia. I'm hoping word of mouth will make it and King Kong the big winners of the holiday movie season. If nothing else, people can say the year went out with a bang thanks to a lion and a gorilla. :D

Great to see Walk the Line doing okay. I hope it breaks the $100 mark.
