Coldplay on MTV European Awards

Watched it on TV last night and was wondering what was up with the singer from Coldplay. I don't listen to much of their stuff but figured they are popular for a reason. The live song they did though sounded horrible. The guy can't sing. Totally overrated.
Anyone else see this?
Green Day put on a fantastic show though.

Maybe he had a bad night but I have seen them Live and he has a very good voice. I recall hearing him on an award too (I think the 05 VMAs) and he sounded bad. This was before I saw him live so I was a little worried.

ETA: His name is Chris Martin BTW.

I have to agree with gmal. I've heard a live CD of theirs and also saw them live this summer (my buddy's wife couldn't go so I got to go for free!) and they sounded great.

however their live video they released, is a brain fryer - the editing is so insanely bad, it's as if the editor had ADD.

Am I missing something or did you get your abbreviations mixed up?

Just a bad night I guess. Like others, he sounded great when I saw them and sounds great on the live 2003 DVD/CD set as well.

They were on Conan the other night and he didn't sound too good. Maybe his voice is tired. They've been touring for what seems like two years straight.

Yeah, he doesn't have a good voice at all.
