The music seemed so weird at first but I got used to it as the trailer went on. Does the trailer make me want to see it? Ehhh maybe when it comes out on dvd.

at first I thought the music was really out of place and seemed like putting Lowrider into that Knight movie. Then it all fit into place.

Weirdest use of 'Age of Consent' I've ever seen...

Heh, I, too, immediately thought of baracine's reaction after seeing the trailer, which was exhilarating but not that shocking... I wasn't expecting Sofia Coppola to change her style to suit a genre and go all Barry Lyndon. (To be honest, I don't think she could if she tried.)

After giving it some thought, I've decided I like the use of "Age of Consent" with the period images. Anachronistic use of music, especially melancholy indie-pop tunes, might actually help make the film an exuberant statement on the bittersweet joy of being young. I certainly hope so.

The movie? Or Baracine's inevitable appearance in this thread?

During a search, I ran across his MA thread and laughed my ass of re-reading it. Pure gold.

I have a feeling the music is "trailer specific" and won't make it into the actual film.

The trailer shows that (hopefully) Sofia is approaching the material in a fresh, unexpected way.

I love it.

The trailer got me much more excited than I was when the project was announced. Beautiful through and though. And no matter how much we bitch, we all know that based on her last two films, we will be the first ones to line up next year. Seems like she is approaching it in a rich girl sense. Reminds me of those Sweet 16 shows on MTV. Girls who don't understand anything around them because everything has been handed to them. Marie is rich and surrounded by rich people who are just as disconnected from the outside world as she is. Seems very interesting and I hope Coppola delivers. w.

the entirety of the film's soundtrack falls in line with the track used in this trailer. can't remember if this exact song is in there though.

New Order is a very curious choice, but it works for me. I'm really interested in seeing this. I know Kirsten Dunst makes some people's teeth itch, but I thought she was great in Coppola's "Virgin Suicides" and quite like her myself. After "Lost In Translation," I'm down for checking out whatever Coppola does next.

I like the New Order song but I'm not sure about the picture. Too bad there was no shot of Marie Antoinette's (Kirsten Dunst) severed head in the trailer.

I also thought the music didn't fit with this genre of this film but ended up liking it. The trailer got me intrigued with the film nonetheless.

This trailer didn't have me interested at all. I'll skip it for sure.

It should have had Queen - Killer Queen.

Now if the dialogue were all done in street talk, then that would be wack!

... I think I'll pass on this one.

I thought long and hard about my entry in this thread and this is the best I can come up with on short notice without consulting an attorney, being totally taken aback by the fact that the little (rhymes with witch) had the audacity to squander her father's money and goodwill by actually using rock music in her trailer on top of casting crack-dealing rockers in pivotal roles:

I regurgitate turkey stuffing vomit all over this doomed-from-conception project. Just what the world needs... Another historical epic from which the viewer will exit actually knowing less about the subject than when he bought his ticket. May her already reprehensible posture develop into full-fledged scoliosis! May her trust fund come to naught! May her nose-picking habit be caught on tape! May her breakup with Quentin Tarantino cause her to break up in a total and terminal acne rash! May she be involved in a freak backstage firearms incident during the next MTV Video Awards! May her production company's accounting department run out of freshly-severed racehorse heads!

Oh, baracine is upset with this movie, what a surprise...

I think it's unfair to make a judgement about a movie's historical context without hearing a line of dialog. As for the use of "rock" music: New Order's Age of Consent is one of the least "rockingest" songs ever. In fact, the composition is pretty much synthesized strings. Sort of like a new take on old music; like a new take on an old movie.

Honestly, this movie looks as faithful to source material as Amadeus.
