Along the lines of the Die Hard deal of the day a couple days ago, fye.com has Family Guy volume 2 season 3 for $29.99-$20 rebate. Link is

Presumably the 15% off code would work for this offer too....

Sweet deal. Too bad I just picked this up on Black Friday for $15.99 from CC. Oh well--but that was a darn good deal at the time.

Does anyone know why people give FYE rebates a bad rap?

I think it may be because you have to tear off one of the proof of purchase tabs. Since this is a gift, I'll just use one from my copy. It may be other stuff.....

Because they have been a thorn in many a person's side. One important thing to note though, is that they used to use Parago to handle their rebates, and things went pretty smoothly. Then they switched to a different company, and things went to s**t. Now, they have switched back to Parago, so things are getting better again.
My recent rebates with Parago have all gone through fairly smoothly, been received promptly, approved correctly, and processed fairly quickly.
As previously stated, you also generally have to cut into your DVD box to get the UPC code and send it in. They don't accept the little "proof of purchase" tabs inside the DVD. I get around this by going to the FYE brick and mortar store a few blocks away from where I work, buying the applicable titles, taking off the price sticker with the UPC code indicated, and then returning the title to fye. This way I don't have to mangle my DVD boxes.

I've also had success (with coconuts.com, at least) just scanning the upc and printing it on thick-stock paper.

Neither Family Guy, or the Die Hard Set rebates says anything about sending in the UPC.

The one time I actually used FYE (because of the rebates offered - Scrubs, I think it was - even cut up the box to get the code) they never sent me the rebate check. All I got was a note saying that it had been purchased outside the range, which was false. It seemed like to big a hassle to try and get the rebate, though, so I have just given up ordering from them altogether. If that's the best they can offer for a first experience, screw them.

They have always made good (on the first try) for all of their rebates for me. The only one I had toruble with was a Seinfeld rebate that wasn't actually on the rebate form that they gave me. The ad in question listed a different season.
I used the UPC sticker instead of cutting the box and was prepared to return the DVD, but didn't have to. When the rebate was denied (as I half expected), the store made good on the rebate in cash!

It used to be that you had to actually cut the 'original' UPC from the package in order for your rebate to be accepted.
But, from a tip I got from here, you now need only send in the white & yellow price sticker from the packaging - which includes the UPC number - and that works, instead. So, you don't need to deface your product.
Since I found that out, I've been using that method for the last 6 months, and have yet to have a problem with any of the ones I've submitted. The only downside, is that it does take some time to get your rebate check - usually 10 to 12 weeks (at the most) from when you first send it in - but I have had others take much less.

FYE and Coconuts no longer require the UPC (or POP) for the Rebates. I noticed this when I ordered Office Space SE last month.
In November, they dropped the UPC requirement from their Rebate forms.

In November, they dropped the UPC requirement from their Rebate forms.Yet, the rebate center says they wont process any submission thats missing the UPC. Go figure..perhaps its a deliberate ploy of TWEC to trick people into thinking they dont have to mangle the box only to find out they will be shafted on the rebate later. First of all, how many people do even submit the rebate ? Secondly, how many will care to follow up once their rebate is declined ? Seriously, fraudulent retailers like these should be boycotted.

That's not true. I just got a few things there last Friday, and the UPC requirement is still on the forms - at least at the B&M store, that is.
Also, one of the things - some Fuji CR-r's - had a seperate rebate direct from the manufacturer - and even that required the UPC.

Good point ... to clarify my statement, all of the FYE.com and Coconuts.com (online) Weekly Rebate forms have dropped the UPC requirement.
To receive your mail-in rebate:
Send:
1. This original completed form.
2. coconuts.com order confirmation email dated 9/1/05-12/12/05 and packing slip.
3. Submission must be postmarked by 1/12/06.
4. Make copies of rebate form and packing slip for your personal records.
Though ... in reading through a number of the forms, they have dropped the "Original UPC bar code" from "To receive your rebate" section, but there is still some mention of the UPC in the small print:
12-08-05 FYE.com Family Guy Vol 2 Rebate Form (http://ak.buyservices.com/buy_assets/fye/clientassets/specials/popups/rebates/120805familyguyfye.pdf)
... states (in small print), "Products returned to store without original UPC label will not be accepted."
Other recent forms have the following statements in small print:
Replications of UPC bar code symbols are
not valid. Please allow 10-12 weeks for delivery. No Post Office Boxes allowed. Products returned to store without original UPC label will not be accepted.

11-29-05 DVD Releases Coconuts.com Rebate Form (http://ak.buyservices.com/buy_assets/coconuts/clientassets/specials/popups/rebates/112905cocodvd.pdf)
This was the last one (that I found) that has the "Original UPC bar code" required in the "To receive your mail-in rebate" section.
11-15-05 DVD Releases Coconuts.com Rebate Form (http://ak.buyservices.com/buy_assets/coconuts/clientassets/specials/popups/rebates/111505cocodvd.pdf)

12-06-05 Coconuts.com Mr and Mrs Smith Rebate Form (http://ak.buyservices.com/buy_assets/coconuts/clientassets/specials/popups/rebates/mrsmithcocodvd.pdf)
To receive your mail-in rebate:

I've had a couple of times with problems regarding rebates, but usually an email saying you submitted everything and have copies of it will sort it out. Price sticker UPC code also works fine. I just write a little note to them saying it is a gift and don't want to open it.
One time long ago I had a big problem with a different company and they wouldn't budge. So, I just emailed BBB, forwarded the email to them and they mailed me the rebate check within a week plus a $10 GC!
Sure rebates can be a hassle, but if you just do them straight away and keep copies you should be fine regardless of who you're dealing with.
Btw, one time with Staples/HP/Compaq (bought a PC) it took them over 6 months to send me the last rebate check for $100, but when it finally came I ended up with a computer that retailed for about $600 for just under $180 out of pocket. Well worth it IMO.

Ive been buying lots of stuff from Fye with my 10% card in store and because of the rebates for stuff. Ive only had 2 of my rebates turned down. I never cut the upc code off the box. I just send in the upc code with the price on it from the package and dont have any problems with that so far.

I sent in my Coconuts.com Office Space rebate without the UPC last month, and I am hoping to see how that works out.
This Family Guy set does have a UPC sticker, but it is placed on the cardboard over the original UPC of the box (under the shrinkwrap, not on it). Anyone have any experience removing this? Am I going to rip the cardboard box removing it?

For my two recent $20 rebates, Family Guy S3 and Simpsons S6, even though they did not request the UPC, I decided to send the UPC sticker with the rebate. For both of them, they were stuck on the box itself, NOT the shrinkwrap. The Simpsons one came off clean with no issues. The Family Guy one was much more difficult ... and although there was no damage to the cardboard box, it did leave some of the black sticky residue behind.
... anyone have any ideas how to remove the leftover black sticker residue without damaging the cardboard box?

Follow up to my original response to the invalid Office Space SE rebate due to missing UPC (this is also posted in the Die Hard for $9.99 at FYE.com thread). The reply from the Rebate Service only took a couple of days.

Just to let everyone know, I ended up buying a small bottle of Goo Gone at Home Depot. I applied a small amount to a paper towel. It easily removed the black sticky residue from the Family Guy cardboard box. There was a very slight discoloration on the box in the areas where I scrubbed a bit harder due to thicker residue. Overall, a successful experience with results that I am happy with. It also removes the security sticker residue from the DVD case without any negative effects (but I suggest removing the DVD outer casing insert before proceeding).
