I was in Target today, and noticed that they had Star Trek The Original Series marked down to 79 dollars. Considering that even Walmart sells these sets for 100 bucks, not a bad deal.

I saw these the other day also, but still didn't think it was a good price. :(

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh just say NO to Paramount!

Still waiting for a SRP of $50 or less...

...that's for the entire franchise.

Dream on. Paramount has always been stingy with their ST series. It used to cost a small fortune to own the original series on VHS, like $15-20 bucks for a 2 episode tape.

$240 is Costco's everyday price. They had the set on sale for for $190 last week.

I got mine used at hastings for between 50-60 a season...they were still sealed inside, just not sealed on the cardboard thing that is on the bottom. So they were really new, but opened.

Get the next gens/deep space at DDD 20% sale for around $61 a piece.

If you are a Barnes and Noble member card, use it at their annual (atleast for the last couple of years) B2G1 - June - and it amounts to around $66 IIRC.

Fry's Electronics sometimes (used to) do great deals on Trek sets, especially soon after they came out -- around Black Friday or that weekend, they had Enterprise S3 and S4 for $60 -- in-store, of course. That is the lowest I have seen Fry's go with any Trek set.

Unfortunately, as you already know, even with sales, the low price of the Trek sets is far and few between and still does not fall around $50. :(

Maybe someday :)

Unless you have to break down and take the around $60 price. Or you look for the misprice somewhere and hope it gets honored (like Amazon's around $328 for Voyager 7 seasons -- saw it happen twice, via someone posting here, but never again -- in fact, checked a couple days ago and Amazon was selling for full MSRP or close to it $800  ).

FWIW

My guess is that after the TAS is released next year, we may start to see a rollout of a new and lower SRP somewhere down the line, especially with the new video formats on the horizon.

I'd love to get all the sets, and haven't gotten any yet b/c of the prices. Sure you can find some for ~$60 but I still want to wait, and can do so...

The thing I am afraid of is that with the way Paramount is pricing Trek and for how long they have kept it there (years !!) -- one day, they are going to stop printing them and announce it and ... there goes a run on the sets ... at any price. If they are trying to make as much as possible, this is one way to do it and may occur now that the TV series are all gone. A 10th movie is supposed to be in the works for release summer 2007, but since the last one went good but not as well as hoped ... who knows.

This is the dilema - buy now at the lowest prices // wait and take a chance they will be gone. Who knows if and what shows/movies will be ported over to the new format.

Decisions, decisions, decisions and what to do.

Prices are tempting but .....

IMHO

The last one, NEMISIS, was the tenth film.

That's what I did, good enough price for me, I really enjoy watching them, so no biggie for me.

I wouldn't hold your breath on Trek HD sets though, especially since I'm pretty sure that TNG, DS9 and Voyager were all produced on video not film. Classic Trek could happen, but the only for sure candidate is Enterprise, as they shot that in HD to begin with.

I would love to buy the complete Star Trek original series and Next Generation episodes but I refuse to be ripped off this bad on a box set. $79 is much better, but still not close to what I would actually pay.

Look for them used at your local gamestops - the everyday price for all series ranges from $50-60, if you are a member it is 10% off and if you get them during a buy 2 get 1 free sale - $30-36. (I have gotten several sets of Voyager and TOS that way, and 1 TNG, all like new.)

Or you could luck into seasons 1,5 and 6 of TNG at a pawn shop as I did for $15 each (minus the outer box, but discs like new). :D

Just goes to show that it is all a matter of personal preference.

$80 a season is a bargain, IMO, for ST:TOS. But then again I have absolutely no interest in any of the other Trek series, and not a slave to a completist compulsion. So I've shelled out $240 (@ Costco) for the whole series, and I'm done.

When ST:TOS was first released on DVD, it was $19.99 - $14.99 a disc for 2 episodes... 2 EPISODES!

It wasn't as bad as all that.

Reel.com 40% off: $11.99 per disc. They came out 2 at a time, so $23.98. Add a couple bucks shipping then a $10 off coup. You could get them for about $8 a disc ($4/episode)

Cheap.

Well, good for you. My style is to buy what I want at the lowest possible price so I don't have to complain about not having it because it's too expensive. To each his own.

Cheap.$8 x 40 discs = $320.00, all three season from DDD during a 20% off sale would be $205, and they don't take a whole shelf up either! ;)

I don't buy used DVD sets.

Plain and simple, Paramount ought to lower the SRP on each season set of Star Trek. FOX has since done so with their original flagship The X-Files, but Paramount is a different story. That's all.

I broke down and bought these two or three days ago...all three seasons...had to go to two locations...seasons one and three at the first...season two at the second...wait, who's on first?

This was definitely a splurge. But I don't belong to Costco, and I've been wanting these ever since the season sets came out---never got any of the 2-fer episode discs. Don't have a Fry's around here (grunt). And I just turned 33 as of three hours and three minutes ago......yes, I'm still trying to justify the gaping gash in my checking account.

I had a $5 off $50 coupon from BJ's...so I used that to buy the Star Trek Special Edition movie DVDs 1-4 and 6, all at $12.99 a pop. They had Undiscovered Country...but, uh...well, sorry, Bill.

Ah, I remember the days of reel.com. Good bargains, and credit for getting trivia questions right! I miss them so...

If anyone is interested in Star Trek Next Generation Seasons 1, 2 or 3 ecampus.com is selling them (new) for $53.55 each with free shipping for orders over $49. The next lowest competitor price that I’ve seen is $98.

You can get an additional $5 discount off any order with “5SAVE” and $10 off a $200 order with “10SAVE.” The “5SAVE” coupon and free shipping (combined) worked a few days ago, the “10SAVE” is untested.

There's rumours that Costco's sale price of $190 from a few weeks back was good thru 12/24. Just an FYI.

But I don't belong to Costco
If you don't want to join yourself, find a friend whose already a member. Or split a membership with a friend. Costco has enough good deals that it's worthwhile to join.

I just picked up Star Trek Movie Special Collector Editions 1 and 3-8 from Columbia House DVD Club for $13 and change. Total. I'll pick up the rest as part of my fulfillment requirement. When all is said and done, my total cash outlay will be about what you just paid for the 5 DVDs. Check out the DVD Club sub-forum. Just an FYI. :)

I've held off on "X-files," "Star Trek," and most HBO Dramas for years because of the high prices, and lately it seems to be paying off with Fox lowering the MSRP of x-files to $50 and Costco's HBO deals (got 4 seasons of Six Feet Under for $150)...

Now it seems to be Paramount turn with Star Trek but I don't see it happening til after the HD/Blu-Ray sets are released...

The $190 deal at Costco is true. Just saw it with my own eyes. Good thru 1/1/06.
