Did YOU read that other thread? The free shipping trick ended very early in that thread...
No, other people found a number of other items to get free shipping.
EDIT:
Here is one that people found that still works:

Way too much to check out, but anyway have a few questions, trying to limit the spending.

Is Good Morning Vietnam a good blind buy?

How much better is clerks x to clerks collector's series?

I'm assuming all of the kubrick collection is widescreen?

Clerks X is really good if you are a Smith fan. Lots of good extras with the cast. Couple different cuts of the film too. Worthy double dip for Smith fans.

I know and you can get the SE for that one and DPS SE for the sale price right now on pre-order, which is nice. Do you guys think any site or b&m will beat $10.99 on these? And is it a good blind buy?

Just as a general caution to those that didn't follow the other recent J&R thread, several people received damaged DVDs because J&R shipped multiple DVDs in padded envelopes. They apparently saved their boxes for delicate items like guitar picks. ;)

But my order of five DVDs arrived in perfect shape and it was a great deal. $4.99 shipped for several excellent titles.

I don't know but during the pre-Black Friday sale they removed a pile of titles after a few days.

Thanks, I picked up some discs I've wanted but never got around to getting yet:

True Romance (1993) - DVD (Two Disc Special Edition; Unrated) $12.99
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) - DVD (Special Edition) $10.99
Caddyshack (1980) - DVD $6.99

..and who can't use more guitar picks and free shipping?

I wouldn't wait until then, though. If the last sale was any indication, anything worthy of a purchase will be back to regular price long before the 14th.

In addition to the earplugs and the guitar picks, I noticed they offer the following at the checkout page:

After Holiday Free Shipping

If you do not need your order delivered by Dec. 24th, then select After Holidays FREE Shipping as your shipping method, between now and Dec. 23rd 2005 at 3PM EST, and we will ship it to you FREE for delivery after the holidays! (You may also phone in your order at 800-806-1115.) Most orders will ship between Dec. 26 and Jan 2. (Offer applies to the Contiguous United States only and excludes Music/Movie items, P.O. box addresses, and Freight items)

This, combined with the fact that, "Your credit card will only be charged when your order is shipped" might make it a viable option for some of us who have been hit by all of these sales.

Correction: It's odd, once I removed the earplugs, the option disappeared from the checkout page. Oh well. I guess you can still make use of the option to give your credit card a break, but you need to buy the picks/plugs.

Hrmm, wonder if it's in direct response to people buying the plugs just for the free shipping, and them getting tired of having to rush out all of these free shipping orders.

It won't give me free shipping even when I add the earplug cord or thumb pick (despite them both saying "free shipping"). However, when I add either of them, my default shipping changes from parcel post to UPS ground and the cost goes down by $1.44. I also get the free shipping after 12/25 option only when one of them is in my cart at checkout.

Is anyone else having this problem??

BTW, here are the links to the free shipping products mentioned in this thread:
Earplug Cord .99 (http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4021090)
Thumb Pick $1.99 (http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4061757)

Edit: Okay, after messing with the shopping cart for awhile, I figured out that the free shipping goes away if you have more than 12 items in your cart. I don't know why... but it does.

2001:SO is 2.35:1 anamorphic, but i believe Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining are full frame.

Maybe it changed to not being free shipping because your cart only had music/movie items in it?

Good Morning Vietnam is $13.99 at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B8QG22/qid=1134109749/sr=8-3/ref=pd_bbs_3/104-3385544-5790347?n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

Same thing for Dead Poet's Society:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B8QG1S/ref=pd_bbs_null_2/104-3385544-5790347?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130

$10.99 seems like a pretty good deal for both.

i made my order of enter the dragon, pirates, seven, roger rabbit, and lost boys along with the picks and they shipped the picks and cancelled the rest of my order. well, those fuckers are going to get a big fat chunk of my mind. won't help anything, but it will annoy them and make me feel better about myself and that's all that matters. they i will probably reorder and PAY SHIPPING! great

Darn...3 of my 5 DVD's are on that BestBuy sale list. Oh well, I saved on sales tax at least.

I got Enter the Dragon, Seven, Casablanca, and My Fair Lady and National Lampoon's Vacation. I got my shipping notice today, and they upgraded the free shipping (via black earplug lanyard) to UPS 3 day mail.

Thanks for posting, OP

D'oh! I just realized that the new price point is part of a studio plan discussed in this thread (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=443221). The MSRPs of many back catalog titles are being temporarily lowered for the holiday season. Why aren't more retailers following suit? I guess this was supposed to start in early November.
