Stan is embarrassed in front of his friends when his dad gets pulled over for drunk driving.

I wonder if this will be a Christmas episode.

I hope so - I still yearn to wash the taste of last season's "Woodland Critter Christmas" out of my mouth.

I imagine there'll be some sort of tie in with the whole "Say Bloody Mary three times in the mirror" thing.

I liked the Woodland Critter Christmas episode last year, more so than the previous year's trip to Canada or the Commando Jesus from the year before. Still, nothing tops the Mr. Hanky Christmas Special.

Who wants to bet we'll hear Randy screaming out, "I thought this was America?"

Even the well-deserved bitchslap at AA did not save that ep.

Showing the early eps in the time slot just before shows how bad SP has become. I mean, come on... can anyone really say that this was funnier than Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride?

wasn't there a rumor about a year or two ago that south park was finished? but then they announced there would be more seasons?

sounds like these last episodes might be all the leftover ideas that trey and matt never thought were good enough for previous seasons.

I didn't really like this show. Someone like Stan's dad may not be an alcoholic, but there are real alcoholics and they do have serious problems.

But I guess it's easier to say "Stop drinking!" than to acknowledge things like that.

There are also people who aren't alcoholics but need to hear that they can stop being an idiot if they want to all on their own.

I think this was a bad episode because it wasn't funny and that it was also bad episode from a social commentary perspective because it didn't come close to getting this issue right. There are people legitimately in both groups, and it is just as bad to tell the alcoholic that he can have a couple of beers and just needs discipline as it is to subject non-alcoholics to forced AA meetings.

I think I read something similar to this last week in Medford, MA (http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2005-11-27-marystatue_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA). Based on that, it is unquestionable that they wrote this episode THIS week and it is not an old idea.

I don't think that makes it unquestionable. These things happen a good amount of time. It could be that they had this in the can for ages and this just so happened to be the right time to make it because it was topical again and because they had nothing else in the tank.

I liked the stab at AA. I have a friend that was in AA and they got the part right about having to give yourself to god and ditching all of your old friends. I got into big arguments about that with my friend. Saying that that is a cheap way out for you to stop drinking.

After Friday, we’re all on hiatus again. As usual, everyone needs a break.

It’s 10:10 and we’re….7 shots out. What does that tell you?

Have a wonderful holiday filled with all the things you love best. Precious, right?

See you in March.

No christmas episode from what I read...

Episode was funny...not the best...but got lots of laughs. I enjoyed the AA guy trying to explain that AA isn't about religion even though God is involved in 3 of the 12 steps. Penn & Teller did an episode of Bullshit addressing this and the guys representing AA tried to make the same argument.

Agreed. I kept thinking of Penn & Teller when watching this ep. They were pointing out very similar things about AA, and 12-step programs in general.

I thought there were some funny moments. The bleeding statue was a bit  for me at first, then it got old quick. The sobriety test was pretty funny. Better than last week, but not a classic by any means.

Raunchy 'South Park' Virgin Mary Episode Angers Catholics

NEW YORK -- "South Park" has proved again that nothing's sacred.

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is condemning an episode of "South Park" that it said "defiled" the Virgin Mary.

The cartoon, which runs on Comedy Central, features an episode this week titled "Bloody Mary," in which a South Park character claims to have been sprayed with blood from a body orifice of a Virgin Mary statue. When Pope Benedict investigates, he declares that she's just having her period.

The Catholic League is urging the board of Viacom, which owns Comedy Central, to apologize to Catholics and stop the episode from airing the next several nights as scheduled.

The Catholic League notes that Viacom board member Joseph Califano is a practicing Catholic, and that Thursday was the church's feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.

What is funny about that? At least if the Virgin Mary bit had been funny and offensive I could see telling Catholics to calm down and get a sense of humor. But it was idiotic, poorly done, and offensive. Maybe to top it they'll do a humorless bit excoriating holocaust survivors.

Maybe to top it they'll do a humorless bit excoriating holocaust survivors. If we didn't hear about all the "so-called" Virgin Mary miracles that pop up about once a month with her apearing in bagels and toast and oil stains in the drive-way I would probably agree with you. But we do so it was hilarious too me....except for when the Pope got sprayed but that was only because they had run the joke dry by then. They even try to aknowledge it by having him inch closer and closer and then looking at the camera...but I was expecting them to come up with something differant instead of the same joke they had done 2 times already.

Count me in the minority as one who liked this episode. Watching Stan's Dad go thru the pullover scene was great.

Anything that makes fun of this "disease" and religious statue miracles gets an A in my book. I get tired of hearing how people can't accept responsibility for themselves. As for the Catholic church being offended...well, don't even get me started on them.

While I'll agree there was a lack of laughs and that this was probably the weakest episode of the season, Trey and Matt certainly know how to attack the right things in the show. The portrayal of AA is spot on. I wonder if they had just watched Penn and Teller's: Bullshit episode about AA and then wrote this.

Maybe it was just because the wife and I had started drinking at noon today, but we watched this off the DVR this afternoon, and thought it was pretty funny. I think the Mitch Hedburg quote nails it perfectly, and I've always thought the whole "seeing the Virgin Mary in my toast" thing is pretty silly. I don't want to seem like I'm attacking one particular religion, but that just seems a bit excessive to me. I also love anything that makes Stan hold the bridge of his nose, trying to stay calm when people are acting psychotic around him, so that earned points with me.

"What's the officer, problem?"

I liked this episode because it took on two more ridiculous things in our world: AA 12-Step Programs and Virgin Mary "Miraculous" appearances. (Especially this latter one, because it's astonishing how many people seek out these "miracles" instead of just following what the religion is actually supposed to be about.)

SOB! Unfreaking believable.

Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled "Bloody Mary," the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.

In the episode, a statue of the Virgin Mary is believed to be bleeding from its rear end, inspiring faithful parishioners to flock from miles around to be healed by the miraculous blood.

Eventually, Pope Benedict XVI is called in to investigate, whereupon he determines that the statue is actually menstruating and thus is nothing special.

"A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle," the pope declares in the episode. "Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time."

Somewhat predictably, the Catholic League was incensed by the satirical portrayal of the Virgin Mary and the pope and by the fact that the episode aired on the day before the Catholic Church celebrated its Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The conservative group demanded an apology from Viacom, Comedy Central's parent company, to Roman Catholics everywhere and "a pledge that this episode be permanently retired and not be made available on DVD."

The Catholic League also sought a personal condemnation from Viacom board member Joseph A. Califano Jr., who the group noted is a "practicing Catholic."

Califano was only too happy to oblige. After viewing the episode, he released a statement calling the episode an "appalling and disgusting portrayal of the Virgin Mary."

"It is particularly troubling to me as a Roman Catholic that the segment has run on the eve and day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day for Roman Catholics," Califano said.

Califano also pledged to have Viacom president and CEO Tom Freston review the episode.

Comedy Central did not respond to a request for comment on why "Bloody Mary" was yanked from the schedule.

Screencaps of the episode were no longer available on Comedy Central's press site or on comedycentral.com's South Park section.

The Catholic League previously tangled with Comedy Central in 2002 over a South Park episode titled "Red Hot Catholic Love," but failed to produce any results.

southparkstudios.com isn't run by Comedy Central... Just a FYI.True....but there's not a whole lot on the comedycentral.com website related to South Park that doesn't redirect you to southparkstudios.com anyways. Comedycentral. com basicly has scheduling information and a handful of video clips. I guess my point is the story was implying that if you went to comedycentral.com all traces of that show have been erased...but you would generally have to go through southparkstudios.com anyways to get screen caps, sound files and video from the episode anyways.
