I know this maybe a bit premature, but does anyone know which B&M might have the best price and what that price may be? and if someone will have a bonus something or other...

This is a stupid question but what does B&M stand for?

cgray
12-06-05, 04:02 PM
there are either no stupid questions here, or lots of em... so we'll say there are none.

b&m = bricks and mortor (physical stores, as opposed to ordering online)

Brick and Mortar-physical stores rather than internet sites.
Since this is your next question

does anyone have the answer? this is a good question and i'm curious myself.
best buy and circuit city don't normally post their sale prices online until thursday or Friday. For now it's just the MSRP listed

$26.99 at Target. No bonus items that I'm aware of.

In the time it took you to type that...

Yes, still $25.99.

Hoping a B&M has it for less than $20 on release day.

I'm predicting $29.99 first week at B&Ms. I'm ordering mine from Amazon.

If you don't mind buying used, chances are good that many GameStops will have it for $14.99 before discounts.

I already have it preordered at that price. Why would I go back and check? Just offering a heads up, tho I phrased it the way I did because Amazon jacks up prices sometimes.

$25.58 after A9 discount at amazon. Is the Graphic Novel that comes with it the whole book? I already own the Graphic Novels and was thinking of selling my copy if it's the same.

It is the whole book of The Hard Goodbye, but it's DVD-case-sized so not the easy read

Wow, is Manhattan fantasy land? Dont know about your stores but The fucking Gamestops near me sell all their shit as if it were brand new and made of gold. It wont be less than $25 over here used.

Actually all these used game stores are absolute shit when it comes to selling used DVDs.

Yeah. They also guarantee you'll get it by the 23.

12-08-05, 03:27 PM
I can second that. I rarely see a Gamestop sell any used DVD for less than 2-3 bucks cheaper than brand new. And the brand new ones are usually the full retail price. I've always wondered what idiots go in there and buy a brand new DVD when they could get it literally for half that price at the Best Buy or Circuit City next door.

12-08-05, 03:49 PM
Yeah. They also guarantee you'll get it by the 23.

Not if you select free shipping. At least not for me, it said at check out that it would arrive after Dec. 24th. Says it will arrive before Dec. 23rd if I select the cheapest other shipping option.

But screw that as it puts the price pretty close to what it will be in stores ,so I'll just pick it up at Circuit City on release day/week as I want to have it around X-mas when I'll have time to watch some flicks.

USED PRICES: this brings up an interesting question: do you guys buy used DVDS through the mail or locally (B&M)?

For me, I would NEVER order a special edition like this used from any seller, eBay, Amazon.com marketplace, etc. For the simple reason that most of the people who sell are not the brightest folks, and from past experiences, you have a good chance of getting the original pressing of the disc.

And, do people have much luck finding special re-releases used? Again, many, if not most used discs are ex-rentals, and I find that most dvd rental stores don't double dip very much for special editions, so there are fewer used discs to be found.

I've got tons of movies in my collection that still haven't been viewed, so waiting a couple weeks for this one isn't going to kill me. I pre-ordered from DDD this morning, and I'll sell the old version sometime to recoup some of the additional cost.

I'm using my 20 reward zone bucks with a Target price match. Looking to shell out the 6.99 plus tax out of pocket. I wouldn't want to spend more than ten dollars out of pocket on this set seeing how they lied to us about the amount of "extra footage" that was put back in the movie. They're probably saving the extra goods for Super Duper Slap You Silly in Sin City Edition that will more than likely come out when the second one hits theaters.

I'll wait and see what Costco has it for.

Otherwise, I may take the Target ad to Circuit City and get it for $26.69.

Generally, B&Ms don't pricematch the online stores. They'll say it's because tax and shipping make up the difference.

Best Buy does. Probably because they offer in-store pickup on dvds.

I ordered mine from buy.com on Sunday ($22.50 due to 10% coupon and free shipping) and it showed up today! Whoa! Unfortunately they used some cheesy cardboard envelope, so the box got a little squished, but nothing to get too verklempt over.

There was a cardboard skid at my WalMart with a bunch of new-ish titles on it like RotS, March of the Penguins, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and a bunch of others. There was a sign above that said 19.96. There were also shelf tags for most of the movies on the skid.

I see the Sin City set on this skid and I grabbed it and lo and behold it rang up $31.xx. After a little back and forth with the video clerk, I got my set for $19.96 and she took the other sets off the skid.

I saw the Sin City Recut/Extended giftset exclusive to Sunocast (the DVD, poker chips and deck of cards in a printed transparent plastic case). Regular sticker price is $49.99 but on sale for $44.99. I wonder if anyone got this set and give some opinion on it. The extra $15 for the 'exclusive' goodies seem a bit high.

It only works if you are in their database of people they sent the coupon to. So if you don't log into the buy.com account (like if you haven't used it for so long you forgot your password and don't want the hassle of going through their password-recovery process) then it disappears at that last step. You think they could at least warn you that it is valid or something, but nope, just yank it and hope you don't notice and make a full-price order instead.

Yup. It is one of those half-pallet cardboard displays that Wally uses. Usually they are used in high traffic areas with new releases.
