I did a search a nobody seems to have mentioned this. Last night I checked out the 40th Anniversary edition of The Sound Of Music DVD. Wow! It looks and sounds fantastic. They have completely restored and digitally cleaned up the entire movie. It has never looked and sounded this good. I was a little hesitant at first about purchasing since I already had the 2 disc edition that was released a few years ago but this package is a vast improvement. Definitely worth the price tag.

 No one's giving first hand accounts of how much better the new DVD looks compared to the old Fox 5 Star in that thread.
Thanks cblount, last time I checked (a couple of days ago) there weren't many reviews out on this title. Glad to hear the new transfer looks noticably better. Makes me feel better about getting this one since I also own the 5 Star release.

If it's meant to be a review thread then it should probably go in the appropriate forum ;)

I've read a couple of reviews and there's not that much of improvement.
So I'm not re-buying it.

This is worth a rebuy. The colors are much improved, the picture is sharper and the sound is more clear. One thing I'm glad they did was to put the layer change pause in a different location. Where they had it before hurt Robert Wise's and William Reynolds fine editing.
