Frolov scored an even strength, powerplay, and shorthanded goal...only two away(penalty shot and empty net) from matching Mario Lemieux's feat of scoring every way possible. Back on December 31, 1988 Lemieux lit up the Devils for five goals. Getting five goals in a game is in no way easy, and to have the circumstances of the game allow for a penalty shot, a shorthanded goal AND have the game be close enough for them to pull the goalie...it's definitely one of those "stars and planets aligning" type situations.

As an Isles fan, I had to break out the Rolaids for that one. It should've never went to a shootout, the Isles D just collapsed in the 3rd.

I was kinda wanting the shootout to get down to Godard and Vandenbussche

Anyone know what happens if they exhaust all shooters? I'm assuming they go back through then? There was a pretty noticable decline in the talent of the shooters after about the first 5.

I was curious too and looked at the shootout rules and couldn't find anything about that. I'm guessing they just recycle it and start again.

Perezhogin will now have the oppurtunity to show if he really is a big time goal scorer...He played well when Zednick was out on the top line with Saku and Kovey. Some of the other rooks like Higgins and Pleks may have more time and my two favorite Mike's (both playing well)---Ribeiro and Ryder---really have a chance to show they aren't just the present, but also the future of this team.

I think this will be an interesting few weeks for this team, see if this good start isn't a fluke, but really all this potential and chemistry gelling. Theo also needs to become consistent, but I know I am asking too much.

speaking of the Blues:

Checketts' bid for Blues is dead

By Jeremy Rutherford
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Monday, Nov. 14 2005

Both on and off the ice, the Blues are going back in time. At 11 consecutive
losses, the hockey team could match the club's 12-game winless stretch in
1977-78 with a defeat Wednesday in Columbus.

But perhaps even more disturbing to Blues fans is the step back taken Monday
regarding the sale of the team and the Savvis Center lease.

After a weekend of speculation about Dave Checketts and his dwindling interest
in buying the package deal, the Blues announced Monday that Sports Capital
Partners - the group led by Checketts - officially had withdrawn from
negotiations.

Now, Blues owners Bill and Nancy Laurie are back where they were in late June,
when they put the team and the lease on the market.

The exclusive negotiating rights Checketts had with the Blues since Sept. 28
expired with the announcement, allowing Game Plan LLC, the Boston-based company
orchestrating the sale, to begin talking with prospective buyers again Monday.

"There are other folks that we're going to turn our attention to," Blues
President Mark Sauer said.

The same names that have been bandied for weeks continued to surface Monday,
after news of Checketts' withdrawal became official: Tony Sansone Jr., Shaun
Hayes and Michael Shanahan Jr.

But if that's who the Lauries are turning their focus toward, the Blues owners
might not like what they hear. Both Hayes and Shanahan have said the team's
asking price of $150 million is too high.

So, where does that leave the sale? And more important, where could it take the
Blues?

Checketts, who was unavailable to comment Monday, had planned to purchase the
building lease and keep the Blues in St. Louis. Speculation will rise again now
that the team is up for grabs.

On Monday, Sauer said: "This team is staying in St. Louis. There are no talks
regarding any out-of-town scenarios."

This is at least the third failed attempt by Checketts to buy a sports
franchise. In 2003, he made an unsuccessful bid to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers
and their stadium. That same year, he tried to purchase Atlanta's three major
teams: the Braves, Hawks and Thrashers.

If they continue their trend of last place, they have nice odds to get USA superstar Phil Kessel who should be the number 1 pick in the draft.

I was there (Pens season ticket holder). Man did that SUCK. We were almost down to Ryan Vandenbussche and Steve Poapst taking shots...and they shouldn't be taking shots in the regular game, let alone on a breakaway...

Entertaining as all hell though. You gotta feel bad for the goaltenders when it goes that long...

Burke had a HUGE problem with Sergei's brother Fedor in Vancouver...made his life hell in some respects. I can see Sergei not really liking Burke too much and wanting out. With Fedorov being 36 and not really playing all that great...PLUS the $6 mil he's due for, what...the next 3 years, is it? I can't imagine they got many big offers for him.

Welcome to the downside of the "New NHL" :( Gotta watch your cap. Anyways, Burkie frees up some cap room to attract some free agents. Not a bad idea.

What a great game between the Pens and Flyers on OLN tonight. Some good goaltending the first two periods, and then the scoring came in the third and overtime. Crosby wins it on the breakaway in OT. He played like a man possessed after that high stick from Hatcher wasn't called late in the 2nd. Great win for the pens without Lemieux and Gonchar in the lineup tonight. They never win in Philly, so this is a huge win.

Indeed. Great goal. Great win. Fuck the Cryers. The refs OBVIOUSLY were looking the other way while the "vet" hatcher taught the rook a "lesson". What a bunch of bullshit...And when Vandenbussche goes out to challenge hatcher, the Refs call Vandy for roughing.

I've been an on and off fan of the officiating so far this year. At the most, it's been fair, but the past two weeks, it seems like the refs are letting the vets get away with a little more than the first few weeks. In all the games I've seen at least.

Incredible game last night between the Pens & Flyers. Nice to see Ryan Malone have a good game (1 goal, 1 assist) after being a healthy scratch the game before. Even better to see Sidney Crosby have a monster 3rd period and OT after taking the two incredibly bad non-call-penalties from Darien Hatcher late in the 2nd.

The Pens sent Fleury back down to Wilkes-Barre today. I wish they would suck it up and take the financial hit to keep him up in Pittsburgh. He is dominating down in the AHL and playing very well in the NHL when called upon. I think his time has come. Too bad he has some pretty big bonuses the Pens don't want to pay.

And if things couldn't get any worse:

Brewer's injury wounds Blues
By Jeremy Rutherford
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Thursday, Nov. 17 2005

Defenseman Eric Brewer says that he was just starting to get comfortable with
the Blues.

"The more time I spend here, the better it is," said Brewer, who has been in
St. Louis for 3 1/2 months since his trade. "The more I get used to the guys
and the style of play, the way coaches want things done ... I was feeling good
on my skates."

That progress is on hold. Brewer will be off his skates for four to eight weeks
and on the injured-reserve list after an MRI revealed Thursday he has a
separation of the AC joint in his right shoulder. The injury happened on a hit
late in the first period of Wednesday's 2-0 win over Columbus.

"He's logged a lot of minutes for us ... meaningful minutes," Blues coach Mike
Kitchen said. "It's going to be a big void on the back end. ... He was getting
comfortable with the team."

With Brewer's absence, the Blues just got a whole lot less experienced. The
former Edmonton Oiler was leading the team with 24 minutes 24 seconds of ice
time per game, and his 422 career games are more than Barret Jackman (113),
Christian Backman (82), Matt Walker (40) and Dennis Wideman (4) combined.

They will be the defensemen the Blues count on to seal up the back end, along
with Bryce Salvador (298) and Eric Weinrich, who played his 1,100th NHL game
Wednesday. Kitchen said Thursday night that the team likely won't call up a
defenseman for Saturday's game at Detroit.

"With Brewer out of there, we have a pretty young defense," Kitchen said.
"They'll have to step up and play a strong defensive game ... not step outside
their limit, but play within their capabilities, which is the most important
part for a defenseman."

The group is off to quite a start. Brewer, who has four goals and two assists
this season, played 8:56 Wednesday before he was hurt. In the final 40 minutes,
the Blues pitched their first shutout this season.

Of course, goaltender Curtis Sanford deserved much of the credit, stopping 36
shots. But Kitchen said his defense has played "a little better. We're getting
our pairings settled. We've never had a chance to leave the pairings the same."

Those pairings will be jostled once again, but Kitchen says he's becoming more
comfortable putting his younger players in different scenarios.

"Wideman has stepped in and played well," Kitchen said. "He looks to make
up-ice plays. His minutes are going to go up, and he's going to have to play
the same way."

The same will go for Walker, who is expected to be in the lineup Saturday after
being a healthy scratch the past three games. Kitchen said Walker needs to be
"a little more reliable out there. He realizes he has to be hard to play
against, finishing his checks and clearing the front of the net."

Brewer is the third Blues defenseman to miss significant time with an injury.
Jackman and Backman also sat out several games with shoulder injuries.

"I don't know if it's 'The Curse of the St. Louis Blues' or what," Jackman
said. "Thank God it's early in the season right now. Unfortunately, we're
struggling, but early in the season is a lot better than later."
