I find it strange that Barry Alvarez is retiring from coaching at 58 years old.
I also believe that Joe Paterno will pick his successor. It also is apparent to me that Paterno has enormous respect for Alvarez. Alvarez is not leaving the game but becoming athletic director. My theory is that Joe has bestowed the job to Alvarez and Alvarez wants to step down so as not to mislead recruits.
Penn State was the only road team to make a PA announcement about Alvarez's impending retirement. Coincidence?
Penn State won't want to promote an assistant. They want a big name to step in and continue recruiting. Paterno gave his blessing to Defensive Coordinator Bradley to interview for the Temple job.
Pure speculation, I know. It makes sense to me. Thoughts?
