I find it strange that Barry Alvarez is retiring from coaching at 58 years old.

I also believe that Joe Paterno will pick his successor. It also is apparent to me that Paterno has enormous respect for Alvarez. Alvarez is not leaving the game but becoming athletic director. My theory is that Joe has bestowed the job to Alvarez and Alvarez wants to step down so as not to mislead recruits.

Penn State was the only road team to make a PA announcement about Alvarez's impending retirement. Coincidence?

Penn State won't want to promote an assistant. They want a big name to step in and continue recruiting. Paterno gave his blessing to Defensive Coordinator Bradley to interview for the Temple job.

Pure speculation, I know. It makes sense to me. Thoughts?

Alvarez is retiring to take over as the AD at Wisconsin. Ergo, not gonna happen.

Yeah, I noted that above. What football coach wants to be a pencil pusher? C'mon.

Bo Schembechler?
ironic in that what led Bo to realize that the AD job was powerless (vs. the college presidents) was the fact that PSU was added to the B10 despite the B10 AD's being unanimously against it. He started looking to retire shortly thereafter.

Bear Bryant died with the knowledge that he never got his dream job. ;)

And Paterno outcoached both of them considering Bowden's win total is a fraud. ;)

Curious statement considering Bear went 4-0 vs JoePa.
