Eddie Guerrero passes away
Oct. 13, 2005

WWE is deeply saddened by the news that Eddie Guerrero has passed away. He was found dead this morning in his hotel room in Minneapolis. Eddie is survived by his wife Vickie and his two daughters.

I know it says Oct. 13th, but I think that WWE just messed up, because today is Nov. 13th. It's also on the main page of the wwe site as well. No explanation of cause of death is given.

Eddie, you will be missed.

Wow!! I wonder how long before they connect drugs to his death?

I hope this wasn't a situation where he fell off the wagon and OD'd. WWE is usually very good at catching the guys that have problems, and making them either get treatment or go home (Jeff Hardy is a prime example).

Eddie was one of the true "total packages" left in wrestling. Some guys can wrestle well but can't get a character across worth a damn. Other guys have a decent character, but their in-ring performance sucs. Eddie did both very well.

He's already missed. I just can't believe it.

At least I've had the pleasure of watching him wrestle a few times. Twice this year, in fact (WM21, Judgement Day, & a Smackdown taping). The best time was vs Edge at a Smackdown taping in San Diego a couple years ago. No DQ match. Eddie was a heel, but the whole arena gave him a standing ovation when it was over.

Wasn't he supposed to have a book come out later this year?

WWE News: Guerrero collapses and dies in hotel room, more details
By Wade Keller, Torch Editor

Eddie Guerrero was found in his hotel room in Minneapolis with his toothbrush in his mouth. He apparently died while brushing his teeth. At this point, the belief among WWE personnel is that Guerrero died of heart failure.

Shortly after Guerrero's body was found and removed from the room, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero visited the hotel room to say their goodbyes. WWE wrestlers and staffers were visibly shaken and emotional while leaving the hotel to go the Target Center, the site of tonight's Raw/Smackdown taping. Word from WWE sources is that the tenor of tonight's taping will be dramatically different and that the Smackdown show will need to be revised.

Guerrero's death is now the lead story on WWE.com, under the headline "Tragic Loss". The article says that WWE is "deeply saddened" by Guerrero's death, and provides no further details on his passing.

I seriously doubt the chair shot had anything to do with this. I believe the concusion part of the show was leading towards an angle. This is really sad and shows that sometimes the effects of hardcore drug use, at least in the case of athletes where their bodies are under stress, occur even after the person has given up the drugs.

wrestlers sure do seem to, like, die a lot.

I was thinking along the same lines. I think it's also more noticeable because many seem to die at such young ages. I remember being very bummed when I heard about Mr. Perfect passing away a couple years ago.

I was never a huge Eddie fan but his character was growing on me. Hopefully we'll find out how he passed. I don't know much about his past, but it sounds like he had a serious drug problem.

Press conference regarding Guerrero's death
Nov. 13, 2005

TNA JOINS THE WRESTLING WORLD IN MOURNING THE PASSING OF EDDIE GUERRERO

On Sunday morning, TNA joined the wrestling world in learning of the unfortunate and untimely passing of Eddie Guerrero.

The mood backstage in Orlando is solemn, as many TNA staff and stars were close with Eddie and worked with him throughout his career.

Everyone in TNA will keep Eddie and his family in our thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks to come as we say goodbye to a friend...

I have been going through my old VHS tapes in search of Beavis And Butt-Head episodes the last few days, and on many of these tapes I have old WWF/WCW footage, old RAW,Smackdown, Nitro episodes. Just looking at an episode of RAW from 1999 I could see The Big Boss Man and the British Bulldog, who of course are both no longer with us.

Now I guess I have to add Eddie Guerrero to that tragic list. I found an Episode of Nitro from around that time that featured Eddie in a match with Chris Jericho. Found an episode of RAW where Eddie's arm was in a sling from that frogsplash spot that went wrong right after the Radicalz came to WWF.

I'm in shock, it's really a shock.

And now SmackDown is really in trouble, losing Eddie, and Batista's injury. As if they weren't already devoid of big names. But now is not the time to worry too much about that. I am glad that he survived long enough to get past that Mysterio angle, and actually went out with something of a respectable storyline.

I knew him as Eddy Guerrero (no idea if that's the "true" spelling or not), and he was probably the first "real" wrestler I ever saw live. I saw him at an ECW event quite a few years back (it MIGHT have still been called Eastern Championship Wrestling at that point, I'm not sure) when they made a stop in central Florida. I was in Jacksonville at the time, and had maybe seen two or three ECW shows on Sunshine Network. I don't remember seeing him there. I went out to the show, had the time of my life, and it got my interest in wrestling reinvigorated (if that's the right word). Eddy came out for his match first, and he fought against 2 Cold Scorpio, who I recognized. I thought for sure it was a squash match, that the other guy was a jobber. An incredible match...although sadly I don't remember who won...think it was 2 Cold. Nonetheless....throughout the years I have enjoyed watching him on TV, and was always entertained by him. He will be SORELY missed....

http://www.wrestlingworld.it/Historical/Family/guerrero%20family/guerrerofamilylogo.jpg

I notice on his tights in the above shot the "dy" on there...furthering my recollection of Eddy Guerrero...

http://www.jbkswrestling.com/ProductImages/092%20Eddie%20Guerrero%20store.jpg

If only he'd passed after winning the world title...would have been a great way to go out...but as someone pointed out, at least he was out of the Mysterio angle...however I will always remember him as the man who put on some of the greatest matches I have EVER seen along with Dean Malenko.

Finally, here's a great emotional moment....when Benoit became champ and together they became champions of their respective shows:

Very sad news.

I'm no doctor, but it's hard not to see parallels in Eddy's death and the deaths of other popular wrestlers. British Bulldog, Big Boss Man, Junkyard Dog, Curt Hennig and others have died of sudden causes at relatively young ages. Massive heartattacks for a good number of them. I don't know if steroids weakens the heart, but it makes you think a little bit when one of the most fit guys around, Arnold Schwarzenegger (an admitted former juicer) has a quadruple bipass operation in his forties.

RIP Latino Heat, you will be missed.

FROM CHRIS JERICHO

I am devastated by the news of Eddy's passing and I am so sad...

I've lost alot of friends over the years but this one hurts the most by far.

I had the pleasure of meeting Eddy in Mexico City almost 14 years ago and we've been close ever since (although it didn't start that way!) He is one of my favorite people that I've ever met in the wrestling business, as well one of the greatest performers I've ever seen and had the pleasure to work with. One of my favorite times in my career was when Eddy and I were an underutilized, underpushed, hell, almost non-exisitant tagteam, that were thrown together randomly in WCW. But there was a chemistry there that existed becuase we had mutual respect for each other and we both loved what we were doing. One of my most cherished matches was myself and Eddy vs Chris and Dean in Knoxville, on a benefit show for our dear friend Brian Hildebrand. All four of us started the same way and had the same love and respect for the business, for Brian and for each other...it was a magical night. My best match of 1997 was against Ed at Fall Brawl that year. He was as talented as they come and a true class act.

He was also so humble and a true family man and most importantly a warrior for God. He taught me so much about wrestling and about being a man and it is an honor to call him a true brother and friend.

I have so many classic Eddy stories that I would love to share, but instead I'm just going to go and cry myself to sleep remembering what an awesome human being Eddy was and will always be...

May God bless your family and your soul and may he keep you safe forever putillo falso....I love you my brother...

Love your chapete

Ex-El Pasoan, pro wrestling standout dies at 38

Erica Molina Johnson
El Paso Times

World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Eddie Guerrero ruled the ring with his powerful moves and charismatic persona.

Sunday, fans and friends mourned at the news that the former El Pasoan was found dead in a Minneapolis hotel room earlier that morning. He was 38.

"I broke down the minute I saw it on the Web site. I couldn't believe it," wrestling fan Joe Hernandez said. "I followed his career since he wrestled in Mexico."

Guerrero was in Minneapolis to film Sunday's WWE Supershow.

"It's heartbreaking," wrestling fan Dave Williams said. "I'm in total disbelief about it."

The Associated Press reported that after Guerrero did not respond to a wake-up call, hotel security and Guerrero's nephew entered the room.

The AP also reported that Minneapolis police said there were no signs of foul play or suicide. An autopsy was to be performed at the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

Guerrero grew up on Huerta Street off Delta Drive in South El Paso.

He was a 1985 Jefferson High School graduate and wrestled at the University of New Mexico.

"When I went to Jefferson I met Eddie on the wrestling team," longtime friend Hector Rincon said. "I was a big wrestling fan and my first question to him was whether or not he was related to Chavo Guerrero. He looked at me and said, 'He's my brother.'"

Rincon struggled Sunday with the loss of a man he loved like family.

"He was very caring, very unselfish, never self-centered. He was always caring about other people except himself," he said.

Rincon heard the news Sunday morning from one of Guerrero's brothers.

"I felt like I just lost a brother," he said. "I broke down and I cried. I cried some more and then I tried to get a grip on myself."

He then had the grim task of telling Guerrero's sister that her brother had died.

"I've been very close with the family," Rincon said.

Guerrero was never shy about talking about drug and alcohol addictions he struggled with in the past. The addictions cost him his job and nearly cost him his marriage.

"My battle with drugs and alcohol has been the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life," he told the El Paso Times in a 2003 interview. "But by the grace of God, I'm going on two years now, clean and sober."

Rincon said he would like for people to not make assumptions about the cause of death.

"Those of us who knew him and loved him know very well he had overcome great obstacles the Lord has put in front of him, which made him a better person, a better father, a better person and, above all, a better Christian," Rincon said. "If people have anything to say about his family, it should simply be a prayer and well wishes. His family deserves at least that."

News of Guerrero's death quietly spread among wrestling fans Sunday morning. Some read it on Web sites and others heard through word of mouth.

"It was shocking," Williams said. "Of all the people that you expect, he would be the last person."

He then passed on the news to friend Sly Bratcher.

"I was like, 'Wow,'" Bratcher said. "I just saw him on TV Friday night on Smackdown. It was real shocking to hear he had died."

Guerrero was known for arriving in style to many matches in lowrider cars.

He became WWE champion last year, and never shied away from claiming his hometown.

"He loved this city," Rincon said. "He was never one to be ashamed that he came from El Paso or that he graduated from Jefferson or that his family lived in El Paso or that he was of Mexican descent. He was proud of his family and of El Paso."

Williams remembered the reaction Guerrero got at a wrestling match in El Paso in 2003.

"No matter which wrestler came to the ring, (the crowd was) chanting his name," he said.

Bratcher remembered meeting him after that event.

"He was really down to earth. He was the champion," he said. "He was a good guy."

Rincon said Guerrero's body is being flown to Arizona today, and funeral arrangements are pending.

Guerrero was the son of the late Gory Guerrero, a founding member of Lucha Libre. His brothers, Chavo, Mando and Hector, were also wrestlers.

Eddie Guerrero's nephew Chavo Guerrero wrestled alongside him in the WWE.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Vickie, and three daughters -- Shaul, 14, Sherilyn, 9, and Kaylie Marie, 3. He is also survived by his mother, Herlinda Guerrero, three brothers, and sisters Linda Rodriguez and Maria R. Guerrero.

"Out of my whole life, there were maybe four months that I thought I don't want to be a wrestler," Eddie Guerrero told the El Paso Times in 2003. "But I knew what I wanted to do all my life. I grew up watching my dad and older brothers do it. This is a dream for me."

Did anyone notice that Vinnie Mac was grinning almost throughout the whole press conference. And they did a angle with this same guy about 10 years ago, where he was pronounced dead. Makes me kind of wonder..

Um I am sorry, but are you stupid or something? He died instantly at a in your house ppv when he fell from about 100 feet up. He hit his head straight on a turnbuckle. over 5k people witnessed his death. This is something completely different.

While I do think this tragic event actually happened, I did catch something at the press conference that confused me.

At the point where they were talking about his sobriety, Chavo mentioned that he had just had his "4 years sober" a few days ago on Nov. 15th. Now, today's only the 14th. Now, if this is to air on Smackdown or something, that would make sense, since Smackdown is on the 18th. But it's widely known that he died yesterday, on the 13th, so thefore Chavo should have said something like "He would've been 4 years sober on the 15th" or something to that effect.

If this is a work, it'll be the biggest swerve in the history of professional wrestling.

No problem.

It just always does seem that nobody will believe it when a wrestler dies who is employed by Vince at the time. Brian Pillman also comes to mind. Not like it should be difficult to believe though. It comes with the territory of that lifestyle. I'm sure the bigger roid users of the 80's don't have much time left either, unfortunately.

Sad, sad news! Condolences to his family. My first thought was steroids, becaue Eddie was never very big in WCW and in his early WWE days. Then he exploded in size. I haven't watched wrestling in more than two years. But it's still tragic news.

Wrestlers have got to stop using steriods, and we know they do, and start getting big naturally.

100% agree. It boggles my mind sometimes about the lengths some people will go to avoid vulnerability. At the same time I want to hug them and say, "Who hurt ya, babydoll?" and also smack them for their insensitivity. I only watched wrestling for a very brief period a few years ago, but it seems Eddie Guererro was that rare breed of great great wrestler and incredibly nice, sincere, humble and exceptional person. Very sad. I feel very very bad for those three little girls...

Well, at least things are still fairly cordial here...in yesterday's Fark.com report of his death, some assclown (thanks Jericho) decided to say that he had a secret to tell us...that wrestling was actually fake.

Talk about making a total ass of yourself...

It was a great show tonight, and it's amazing that they'll do a second one for Smackdown.

I used to watch wrestling all the time in high school when TNT had the WCW Monday Night Nitro, and sometimes watched the WWE shows with college roommates who were big wrestling fans but I haven't been a big fan but I still recognize most of the people and I definitely remember Eddie Guererro. Sad to hear that he died.

Vickie Guerrero speaks on Eddie's autopsy report
Nov. 15, 2005

After the untimely passing of Eddie Guerrero, WWE and the entire sports-entertainment community is steel reeling from the devastating loss of a champion. The initial autopsy reports on Guerrero have come in. WWE.com spoke with Eddie’s widow, Vickie Guerrero, earlier today.

“It was heart failure. It was from his past – the drinking and the drug abuse. They found signs of heart disease. She (the examiner) said that the blood vessels were very worn and narrow, and that just showed all the abuse from the scheduling of work and his past. And Eddie just worked out like crazy all the time. It made his heart grow bigger and work harder and the vessels were getting smaller, and that’s what caused the heart failure. He went into a deep sleep.

As soon as they saw his heart, they saw the lining of his heart already had the heart disease. There was no trauma, and Eddie hadn’t hurt himself in any way. It answered a lot of questions. I knew Eddie wasn’t feeling very good for the last week. He was home and kept saying he wasn’t feeling good and we thought it was just “road tired.” So we thought he just had to rest. It answered a lot of my questions, too, because he was just so exhausted. She said it was normal because the heart was working so hard.

When he didn’t call me last night and the night before I knew it was for real, because he would call me every night. I miss his phone calls. I cried through the whole thing (last night).

I loved his laugh. His laugh was the best.

We just celebrated his four-year sobriety last Thursday. We just thought we had life by the handful. We thought we had it all figured out. He worked so hard to make a better life for us.

I’m just overwhelmed by how people are coming out. It’s touched my heart a lot.

Everybody was just in awe last night in how beautifully everything was put together.

All my life was wrestling. All he did was take care of them and live for that. And I don’t know what to do now.”

That's what I figured. He paid the price for drug use. At least he got to come back, win the world title, and spend a few more years with his family after sobering up.

Apparently an ESPN RADIO SHOW kind of made fun of EDDIE.

ESPN PERSONALITY UNDER HEAVY FIRE FOR CLASSLESS REMARKS HE MADE ABOUT EDDIE GUERRERO
by Dave Scherer @ 10:26:00 AM on 11/15/2005

Yesterday on his daily show on ESPN radio show, host Colin Cowherd addressed the death of Eddie Guerrero. I received a lot of email about it yesterday from irate fans and wanted to hear the segment for myself before covering it here. I got to do so this morning.

Cowherd admitted up front that he doesn't like wrestling and doesn't follow it. He took issue that a pro wrestler's death was covered in the sports pages, since wrestling is predetermined. He said that if Hulk Hogan died, he should be put in another section of the paper because he transcends the business. He said that there were certain careers where when someone dies, it doesn't belong in the sports page. His argument was that wrestling is theatre and doesn't belong in the sports pages. His producer, who is a wrestling fan, argued that he belonged in the paper because he was a TV star. When talking about Eddie being found dead in his hotel room he said, "I don't care why". I am sure that was one of the hot button comments that angered readers.

In fairness, I listened to the segment a few times and I don't think he meant that he doesn't care that Eddie died. He was saying that as a sports fan, he didn't think wrestling coverage should be in the sports page, but I can definitely see how people would be offended by what he said, especially if they weren't closely listening to the show and just heard the remark in passing.

Then, a caller was asked what he thought about covering wrestling in newspapers and he said he didn't care because 90% of the wrestlers were "all juiced up". The producer made the great point that "athletes don't juice, right?" Cowherd said his producer was right and by that criteria they wouldn't be able to cover baseball slugger Sammy Sosa. A second caller said he worked at a paper and the death belonged elsewhere in the paper, if they had space for it.

Then came the most offensive comment of the segment when Cowherd, in mentioning that they should just cover his death in the obituary section said, "Why couldn't you put Eddie Guerrero's picture in the obituary with a big mask on. He'd be like a wrestler. He passed away doing steroids."

I got the impression that he wasn't saying that Guerrero died of steroid use with his statement, but he was posing a hypothetical, albeit uncaring, situation. Still, he came across as extremely insensitive to the fact that a real man had died. His producer, on the other hand, did a good job of defending the business and of being a civil human being.

The segment has led to us receiving a large amount of angry email from readers, who have also told us that they have emailed ESPN about this.

Anyone who wishes to email Cowherd can do so at this address: theherd@espnradio.com.

yeah...if he's pissed of it being covered in the sports section (it made front page of the whole paper here in Mpls) then why bring it up on sports talk radio show? oh wait, because hes a cocksuckin piece of shit who wants to be the guy who "gets ratings for being controversial" dont give this guy any of your fuckin time! what a bastard!

anyone got any hypocricies on this guy or has he always been anti-drug abuse?! Be interesting to find out where he stood on Pro Sports steroid abuse, Mickey Mantle,

I was at the TNA Genesis PPV in Orlando this sunday and the news was just breaking, everyone was sad and the usual out of control TNA fans were quiet and down for most of the PPV. Several of the wrestlers were choked up, Konnan and Team 3D even more so. The crowd had several Eddie chants and there were many Eddie signs.

It's been really hard to take in, it's just begining to sink in. Reminds me of when Chris Candido passed.

Jim Ross remembers Eddie Guerrero (http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/rossrememberseddie)
Nov. 15, 2005

Eddie Guerrero and I had a special relationship that came together over time. The catalyst was the challenges this wonderful human being faced in his daily life. I know our relationship was special because I can feel it so strongly in my heart at this very moment — and because Eddie told me so this morning in a dream.

I managed the talent roster for WWE when Eddie was hired at WWE. I had known him and his famous wrestling family for years prior to Eddie becoming a WWE Superstar. But it was after Eddie came to WWE that our relationship became diverse, involved, and, luckily for me, one of the most rewarding and valued relationships I have ever developed in this business. Unfortunately, this unique industry is not famous for people building long-term relationships with their peers that last a lifetime. That’s another story for another time.

I will never forget Eddie. I will never forget the face-to-face, spirited discussions we had over his demons. I will never forget the moment we finally reached common ground, with tears flowing and hugs abounding. We both knew we had turned the corner and now there was a fighting chance for this amazing wrestler to live out the balance of his life clean and sober. Eddie got the help he needed. He returned to us a better man, and he became an even bigger star. Eddie Guerrero is easily one of the 10 best in-ring talents I have seen in 33 years in this business. I was so proud of Eddie, and I told him so every single time I saw him from the day he returned to work until the last time I saw him at SummerSlam.

Eddie seemed a little tired at SummerSlam in August when I saw him at the MCI Arena in Washington, D.C. But when our eyes locked he immediately had an ear-to-ear grin on his face and we embraced like long lost brothers. I guess in a way we were brothers … of the wrestling business. I kidded him about stealing the show at SummerSlam and how that might not sit well with those that had to follow “Latino Heat.” He smiled that mischievous smile of his that we all grew to love because that was exactly what Eddie had on his mind. I wished him good luck and told him how excited I was to be able to sit and watch his match just like a regular fan. We hugged for a few moments but not nearly long enough — as I realized when the news of my friend’s death reached me early Sunday morning.

Eddie, I am sorry I could not be a part of your tribute on Monday Night RAW. But you know my heart was there and you know that I will never forget you or what you have meant to me. You once told my wife that I saved your life. I don’t know about that, but I do know this: You definitely made my life better by me simply knowing you. Eddie, you constantly reminded me that “respect” is still the top priority for being a wrestler — even though it doesn’t always seem that way to everyone in this generation. I hope the young wrestlers in this business continue to look to you for inspiration and guidance. You were a wonderful inspiration to me and to so many others — not only as a wrestler but as a husband, father, brother and friend.

I want to smile as I remember you now because I am weary from crying. Goodbye “Uncle Eddie,” until we see each other again. —Jim Ross

Lance Storm

Eddie (http://www.stormwrestling.com/111505.html)
November 15, 2005

I really have no idea what I’m about to write; I just feel the need to write something. I, like everyone else, was stunned by the news of Eddie Guerrero’s death. One of my students left a voice mail message on my cell phone that I got Sunday morning when I woke up. It was not the way I wanted to start my day.

I didn’t actually know Eddie all that well. We had never gotten together outside of the arena and to be honest never really spoke much inside it, but despite that there was a bond between us, a closeness that had no reason for being. I don’t know if it was just his amazing sincerity or our mutual friends and respect for this business that made me feel closer to him than I really was. Every time I saw Eddie, I was greeted with genuine emotion and love I can’t explain. His face would light up and you just felt that he cared. This is a unique quality I’ve never seen in anyone else. Eddie had the ability to touch people inexplicably. Eddie was a guy I only worked once, never went out with, and as sad as this sounds I can’t recall a conversation between us that lasted more than a couple minutes, yet some how I always felt close to him. I felt a genuine love and connection to Eddie, which I can’t for the life of me explain. I guess he was just a special person that way, he loved people, and I for one felt that love and will always be grateful for it.

I first met Eddie in Japan when we both worked an interpromotional event called “The Sky Diving J” I opened the show that night and he closed it in the main event. He stole the show that night as he did so many nights, and from that day on I knew I wanted to work with Eddie Guerrero. It took almost 7 years for that match to come about, as our career paths never seemed to cross. We missed each other in ECW and WCW, and were almost exclusively on different brands in WWE.

Our one match was a strange one, which only a select few people got to see. It wasn’t on RAW or SmackDown, Velocity or Heat, nor PPV, it was at a house show in where else? Calgary…Alberta, Canada. It was a SmackDown house show and I was on RAW. RAW was on an overseas tour, which I was left off of. With me being a hometown boy and at home I was added to the event as a last minute special appearance. I was scheduled to do a Brother Love interview segment, but that was about to change.

I was sitting in the locker room in my street clothes, as the first match headed to the ring (my interview segment was going to be after the 7th or 8th match). Vince McMahon was doing house shows at that time with Zack Gowen, and he arrived at the building and decided to shake the card up a little. He walked up to me and says, “You know what match I’d pay to see tonight? … Lance Storm vs. Eddie Guerrero for the United States Title (Eddie was champ at the time). Let’s put that match on second.”

SECOND! I kid you not. The first match has already started and I’m sitting in the locker room in my street clothes. Thankfully I was taught to always be prepared and I had my gear in the car. I bolted to the parking lot to get my stuff while praying the first match goes a little long. Someone went to find Eddie to tell him his scheduled match had both been changed and bumped up. As I’m scrambling to get my gear on before my music plays Eddie walks into my locker room cool as can be. These aren’t the exact words but I bet there damn close,

“You and me tonight?”

“Yep” I replied

“Okay, since you’re from here, I’ll be the heel. (Eddie was technically a baby face at the time) When you’re done your comeback and hit all your false finishes go to give me a German, I’ll back kick you and hit you with the frog splash, okay?”

“Sure, whatever you want. That’s your music, I’ll see you out there.”

“You got it?”

“When I’m done, I’ll go for the German”

That was it; that was all we had. We had never stepped in the ring together before, and we were going to the ring with, “When I’m done I’ll go for a German.” I was still taping my wrists and putting on my elbow pads on the way to the ring, no warm up, no stretching, nothing. The match was far from perfect, more my fault than Eddie’s trust me, but it was far better than it had any right to be. He called the entire thing and we went likely 15-20 minutes. Arena reports from fans praised the match but I was never happy with it. I knew Eddie and I could have done better, I had wanted to work Eddie for years and knew we could have stole the show had we had the chance. I wanted to give both Eddie and the fans my best and I don’t feel that I did. I always hoped to have the chance to do that match right, but sadly now, we know that will never happen.

I’m not entirely sure why Vince put us on in such a tough spot. The office, at the time, was pushing to the younger guys the importance of being able to just go to the ring and work, and perhaps this was both a test for me, and a demonstration to the younger guys that it could be done. Either way Vince thanked me for the match and I think respected my ability to answer his challenge. Truth be told it wasn’t that much of a challenge, I was in the ring with Eddie Guerrero, it would have been much tougher to have a bad match.

You will be missed Eddie, you were a great person, and an unparalleled performer. I will miss our unexplained closeness, and I will miss watching you work. When wrestling is done right it is art, and Eddie, my friend you were an incredible artist.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Eddie’s family, I cannot fathom the pain and loss you are experiencing, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Chris Jericho remembers one of his best friends
By Ed Williams III

All of WWE was deeply saddened by the news that Eddie Guerrero passed away Sunday morning in Minneapolis. Everyone who knew Eddie has been deeply affected by his untimely passing. RAW and SmackDown Superstars will have the chance to express their thoughts on the former WWE Champion on both RAW and SmackDown this week. Chris Jericho also wanted to express his feelings and thoughts on his long-time friend. In addition, Jericho has provided this special photo (left) from his personal album. The photo is very meaningful to Jericho, as it depicts him and his three closest friends backstage. WWE.com caught up with Jericho who fondly remembered a friend that he has traveled with through Mexico, Japan, ECW, WCW and of course WWE.

WWE.com: When did you hear about Eddie Guerrero’s passing?
Chris Jericho: I heard about it yesterday at around noon. Shane McMahon called me and told me. I am devastated by the news of Eddie's passing.

WWE.com: What did Eddie mean to you personally?
Chris Jericho: Eddie was one of my best friends in the wrestling business. I’ve known him for 12 years since we met in Mexico City. We’ve been through so much over the years. I hadn’t seen him too much over the last couple of years because we were on different shows. Then, the night before SummerSlam, my flight got delayed. So, instead of flying to wherever we were going, we just stayed overnight at the airport in Tampa. It was my wife and I, and Eddie and his wife happened to be there too, and we talked them into staying over as well. That was probably the last time I had the chance to have a good conversation with him. We had the kind of relationship where all you had to do was talk for about five minutes and you’d be back to where you were the last time you talked to him. We’ve been through a lot of great things together and had a lot of fun together and learned a lot from each other.

WWE.com: You said that Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko were your three best friends in wrestling. What does that picture (above) of the four of you mean to you?
Chris Jericho: There’s a picture of us like that one with Brian Hildebrand the night of that Memorial. When we were in WCW they would call us the New Japan 4 because all four of use came in around the same time, and we all had about the same basic impact. We all came in the same way. We came through new Japan, through ECW. Chris and I came through Calgary and Eddie and Dean came through Florida. We had a lot of respect for each other and we were like kindred spirits. The four of us used to travel together. It was funny because Chris and Eddie would always watch what they eat, and me and Dean were like the fatsos that would look at the back of a cookie box and just laugh. Eddie and Chris eventually split off a little bit because they would want to train at 7:00 in the morning, and me and Dean would wait until 2:00 in the afternoon. But the four of us would always travel together and follow each other. We all respected each other. To get that picture at SummerSlam, eight years after we had the one with Brian, is really special. My wife actually reminded me I had that picture, and I’m so glad we took that picture. Looking at it makes me feel a little better about what happened. I’m not worried for Eddie because he was a man of God and I know he’s in Heaven. I just feel really bad for his family, and I selfishly feel bad for myself. I love Eddie, he was my brother on the road. Even though we didn’t talk too much over the last couple of years, you can’t replace those experiences we had back in Mexico, through Japan and ECW, through WCW which was a hellhole for us at the time – to go through all of that together is special. To eat dinner in each other’s homes and have our wives know each other – it’s just really sad. Of all the guys who have passed on over the years, and it seems like there’s been a hundred by now, this one hurts the most because this was one of the brothers. Anyone will tell you that you can probably count the guys you trust on one hand, and now I have four fingers left on that hand. Eddie was almost a mentor to me in a lot of ways, and I was a mentor to him in a lot of ways too. It just hurts. It really, really hurts.

WWE.com: You and Eddie have had several matches together over the years. Are there any that stand out to you in particular?
Chris Jericho: We didn’t work together too much in WWE because we usually weren’t on the same show. I think my favorite match I had with him was at Fall Brawl ’97 in WCW. We had a great match there. He was as talented as they come and a true class act. Another one we had that was never on TV was myself and Eddie versus Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit in Knoxville, TN, which was a benefit show for Brian Hildebrand (Mark Curtis) who was a referee for WCW. He was a friend of all four of ours and he had cancer, so we had a benefit to help pay for his bills. It was a great night. It was an appreciation night for him. They put us in the main event, which never happened back in those days. It used to always be guys like Lex Luger and Sting, but they knew we were Brian’s friends. It was just a great match. Eddie and I actually had great chemistry as a tag team. We used to laugh that we were the best tag team that really never was. They used to throw us together from time to time in WCW and we would always tear the house down. We used to call ourselves Eh and Buey because buey is a Mexican term and of course Eh because I’m from Canada. Another name we called ourselves was North and South of the Border. He was just one of those guys that could work with anyone. If you had any kind of chemistry at all, you could have a great match with him.

WWE.com: What will you remember most about Eddie?
Chris Jericho: Just how humble he was. He had two sides to him. He was very serious, but he had a really funny sense of humor. He was a really fun guy to be around when he was in that type of mood. And anyone who knows him knows about “The Cricket.” I’m not going to explain it, but those who know, know. And those who don’t, wish they knew about “The Cricket.” That was probably about the funniest thing you could say about Eddie. He was just a really cool guy. He had a real strong faith and belief in God, too. He was never afraid to talk about it, but he would never push it on anyone. He was a true family man and most importantly a warrior for God. He taught me so much about wrestling and about being a man and it is an honor to call him a true brother and friend.

WWE.com: What do you think it meant to Eddie when he finally won that WWE Championship?
Chris Jericho: Eddie felt about it, the same way I felt when I won it, because we talked about it. It’s kind of like wining an Oscar. It’s like getting a pat on the back for years of hard work. We laughed because Chris Benoit, Eddie and myself were basically kicked out of WCW for not being big enough or World Championship material and then less than five years later all three of us were champions in the biggest wrestling company in the history of the world. It was vindication for us. We always knew we could do it and had the confidence. I remember Eddie told me that his dad always said that it says wrestling on the marquee, and if you’re a wrestler you’ll always have a job and it always comes back to wrestling. And he’s right. No matter how much BS there is, and how it’s sports-entertainment, the bottom line is, it comes back to wrestling. And if you can wrestle, you’ll always rise to the top, and Eddie proved that.

And FINALLY...

WWE have decided to drop the Kerwin White character. On WWE.com, the Kerwin White bio was taken down, and replaced with a bio for Chavo Guerrero, including older pictures of Chavo with dark hair. Chavo's bio does not mention the Kerwin White gimmick at all, rather a reference to Chavo being traded to RAW in the 2005 Draft lottery, and carrying the torch for his family name on RAW. As many know, Chavo was given the Kerwin White gimmick earlier in the year. The idea behind the gimmick was that Chavo was pretending to be a wealthy white male, and wanted nothing to do with his Hispanic background. WWE has decided to scrap this gimmick and have Chavo be able to carry on the legacy of the Guerrero name.

Someone has some common sense at least.

I think even Vince is smart enough to know that they weren't going to be able to get away with using the Kerwin White gimmick anymore.

Chavo can expect to be a "face" for quite a while. No way the fans won't give him great cheers.

Yeah, I think they could book him anyway they'd like to try (heel, babyface, whatever) and I just can't imagine that he'll get cheers regardless.

I'm having problems listening to RVD and Edge's comments on Eddie. Has anyone been able to hear them?

When I click on the links, my Windows Media Player opens and then gives me an error message [even though I have it on the automatic setting]. I also tried using iTunes, but when I entered the link, nothing happened. Suggestions?

I only tried Van Dam's comments...but yeah, I got an error message too. I think my Real Player couldn't pick it up either....hmmmmmm.

On another note, did TNA do any sort of tribute (not like WWF obviously, but something like an opening image in rememberance or some such)?
