Theoretical Books on Communication and Politics?

i have a friend who's doing a combo major of PoliSci and Communications and i was thinking that maybe somebody else on here could help her out...

she's looking for academic books on communication within a political party and directly between the party and the public. this does not necessarily mean mass media communication (i.e. political advertisement), but rather i think it implies press conferences and the like...

so, anybody know of some books that might help? all suggestions welcome and appreciated!
