NAME THIS FILM: Fox and the Hound (I think) edition

My stepson and I were eating out and this kinda sad song (who knows, may have been a love song) that had some melancholy harmonica playing came on. He said it reminded him of "his favorite movie" (teenagers and their living in the now), but couldn't remember the name. He said the song was played at the end when:
Spoiler:
one of the main animal characters dies.

I don't remember what song we were hearing, but in my mind I'm thinking of the harmonica work in "That's what friends are for". It kinda reminded me of some of the harmonica that they would have for Benji movies, like when he was lost in a strange place and getting hungry.

Does this sound like "The Fox and the Hound"? I don't want to spend $20 on a pseudo-gag xmas gift and have the wrong film...

It's been ages since I've seen the Fox and the Hound, but I seem to recall that
Spoiler:
neither animal dies. The point of the movie was the dog going against his nature to protect his friend

Were they rabbits? Could have been Watership Down . There's a very sad song sung by Art Garfunkel called Bright Eyes when one of the lead rabbits dies.

Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes
Makes me cry just quoting it. Damn.

Sounds a little like Plague Dogs, but I don't remember a song.

Time and Tide by Alan Price is the song at the end of Plague Dogs.
