TNA Wrestling issued a press release this afternoon regarding the “major acquisition” of a superstar who has jumped ship from WWE. TNA President Dixie Carter was quoted, “This is the single biggest jump in TNA history .. The contract is signed, the travel is set and in my opinion, ‘Genesis’ just got a whole lot more intriguing.”

Several reliable sources have confirmed that this “major acquisition” is none other than former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Champion, Jay “Christian” Reso.

Reso’s WWE contract expired last week and he decided not to resign with the company after 8 years of service. There were reports that WWE had offered him a new contract that was considerably lower than what he had previously been earning. There was speculation that Christian would be subject to a 90-day no-compete clause. The speculation has proven to be false, as the 90-day no-compete clauses are reserved for wrestlers who are released from their contract before its expiration.

Reso will be appearing at this Sunday’s TNA PPV, Genesis. At this time, it is unknown what his ring-name will be. Although Reso wrestled in Canada as “Christian Cage” long before working for Vince McMahon, WWE owns the trademark “Christian”. Reso could take WWE to court and claim he owns the rights to the name “Christian” (both The Honky Tonk Man and The Ultimate Warrior had similar cases - and won), but TNA does not want any more legal troubles with WWE and it appears a new ring-name is being worked on for his debut on Sunday night.

Hopefully they'll put him to good use.

TNA's SO much better than WWE these days! Hell, they're practically even better than ROH. I haven't seen any recent ROH stuff, but TNA's been excellent for the past year.

I saw the word "rejoice" and "Christian" in your thread title and thought maybe somone was traded from TBN to a new network called TNA.

Hate to repost but I didn't see this tread earlier and this fits in here better

Also, sources within the TNA production crew are saying that the newest TNA star is to be none other than Christian. The reason for this is that videos have been made with graphics of the name "Chris Jin." The videos do not feature Jason Reso himself, but are more along the lines of what WWE did with the Boogeyman, no shots of him, but just a buildup video. It appears that TNA will attempt to get around WWE trademarking the name Christian by using "Chris Jin", which, when pronounced, sounds exactly the same.

Chris Jin.

hehe.

I'm actually going to have to order this PPV. It will be the first TNA PPV I've ordered (besides the special 1 cent one they did a while back when the only TV they had was PPV)

My wife should be happy that Christian's going to be back on TV.

Is Christian your wife's favorite wrestler too? He's been my wife's favorite for about 4 years now. We're old school peeps.

I got her interested in wrestling about a year ago....but I'm not sure if Christian is her favorite wrestler or not. She also like Batista and I have a feeling that she likes him a bit more than Christian

It's being reported on PWInsider that Christian has filed for a trademark to use "Christian Cage" as his professional name (the name he used prior to his time with the WWF).

Personally, I don't beleive either report. Both seem to fall under the heading of trying to get an end run around the WWE's copyright.
