Road Warrior & Mad Max Thunderdome- SE's ever ?

Are there going to be some Special Editions of the Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome ? I know they did the first Mad Max a few years ago. I've been holding off buying the current versions because I figured at some point there would be a quality treatment of these two films on dvd.

According to a post at Steve Hoffman forums, there's going to be a Superbit release of Mad Max in January. I know it's not what you're looking for (kind of the opposite, actually), but interesting news anyway. I don't know what the transfer was like for the SE.

I'm waiting for the inevitable SE's. MM3 is a little better than MM1 and MM2 is best of the bunch, Roger Ebert's comment on each one better than the last has the right idea.

I figure that they may be waiting for Mad Max IV to be made before doing new dvd treatments of 2 & 3. I know there was talk a few years ago of a Mad Max IV "Fury Road" but I think the project stalled out just prior to shooting. I don't care of they make a fourth film or not honestly, I just want some SE's !!

Shooting was scheduled just after 9/11 but was cancelled due to travel restrictions.

The Road Warrior disc that's out now, which I own, is excellent already. Great picture and espically awesome sound so even if they were going to make an SE of this movie I wouldn't even bother with it cause the one I have now will suit me just fine.

probably since I just purchased both for my wife. But seriously, I doubt it barring the release of a tie in movie.

Joe29...

Sorry, but I have to disagree on the Road Warrior disc. It was an early transfer and really could use re-mastering. It does depend on your display. I would still love SE's of the discs.

Yeah I've been holding out forever on a SE on ROAD WARRIOR. It's one of the few left of my favorite movies I have yet to own on DVD, and I don't want no bare bones, demmit!

The Road Warrior needs a SE release... A new transfer would be teriffic, and a expanded version of the short doc. that was on the VHS SE would be very nice... There was some interesting stuff on there regaurding the stunts in the flick...

And on the Superbit MAD MAX... Wasn't it a MGM release, not Columbia? Or has it since switched ownership, post SE?

I think MGM was bought by Sony. Or maybe just their catalogue, not sure....

Hard to believe how old those movies are, but yeah a decent release is way overdue.

I think there's a Road Warrior 2-disc set released a few months ago in Europe... although that's not helping anyone over here. Also regarding Vorlord's Mad Max 4 posting I think I read on yahoo movies that Mel Gibson doesn't want to do another Mad Max film because he thinks he's too old.

Actually, that would help us out quite a bit, since alot of people here have region free DVD players. But I haven't heard anything about a Road Warrior 2-Disc SE released anywhere though.

I saw it on the digital bits' rumor mill a while back.

I checked Digital Bit's Rumor Mill and I found this filed under January 21st:

Also today, a number of European DVD websites are reporting that Warner will release the following titles as 2-disc special editions in Germany (and elsewhere in Europe) on 4/8: Bullitt, The Getaway, Logan’s Run, East of Eden, Rebel without a Cause, The Big Red One, Batman, Batman Returns and Mad Max 2. That means, of course, that fans in other areas of the world (including the U.S.) can likely expect those titles as well in the months ahead.
4/8 has come and gone, but a Road Warior/Mad Max 2: SE has not emerged. Some of those have though, so maybe there's still some truth to this rumor. It would bring much gladness to my heart.

So far of the movies on that list Bullitt, Rebel without a Cause, The Big Red One, Batman, & Batman Returns have been released here in SE. Hopefully Road Warrior/Mad Max 2 isn't too far away.

Actually, East of Eden also had a 2-disc SE released, and The Getaway was released as a 1-disc Deluxe Edition. So from the list only Logan's Run and Mad Max 2 have not had a recent SE release.
