The White Stripes: Walking with a Ghost EP - 12/6/05
White Stripes prep 'Ghost' EP, live blitz
Tue Nov 8, 4:16 AM ET
NEW YORK (Billboard) - The White Stripes will on December 6 release the EP "Walking With a Ghost," featuring a cover of Tegan & Sara's title song as well as previously unreleased live versions of four tunes.
The V2 Records release will debut November 14 via Apple's iTunes Music Store. The four live tracks are "Same Boy You've Always Known," "As Ugly As I Seem," "The Denial Twist" and "Screwdriver."
Meanwhile, the duo is also planning to sell a live download of "The Denial Twist" from every show on its current U.K. tour via the Web site for XL Recordings, its U.K. label. At each show, fans can pick a blank CD to burn the tracks as well as artwork specific to the performance.
The studio version of "The Denial Twist," taken from the group's latest album, "Get Behind Me Satan," will be released next week as a single in the United Kingdom, backed by a cover of the Greenhornes' "Shelter of Your Arms."
On Wednesday, the Stripes will also play a private show for 35 fans at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in London. The group's U.K. tour will run through November 17 in Manchester, and extended with a November 20 gig in Reykjavik.
After a holiday break, the band will be back on the road beginning January 12 in Tokyo, leading up to their run on the annual Big Day Out festival tour of Australia and New Zealand later that month.
"Get Behind Me Satan" debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 591,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Nice to see they've gone gold. It's always refreshing to see such an original* band do so well.
* Original in the sense that they are different from a lot of current bands, not that their music is new & groundbreaking.

pitchfork track review:
The White Stripes: "Walking With a Ghost"
genre: rock
Is it sexist to like the NBA over the WNBA because dudes can slam dunk? What about finding Juwanna Mann funnier than Eddie? The Whites' Tegan and Sara cover outshines the Canadian power-pop duo's flat, Stripes-minded original, with the gender-bending Jack sounding his most animated since Elephant. I wanna chalk up the cover's junk-to-gold transmutation to genderless qualities like the crunchier guitars or caveman drumming, but ultimately Jack's finely honed rock affectations seal the deal. Thanks to his searing Robert Plant cowls, trite and repetitive lyrics like "you're out of my mind" and "no matter which way you go" become improbable mantras akin to "wanna whole lotta love?". The whole gender-swap thing creeping you out? Too bad. In the words of character Puff Smokey Smoke, "Juwanna, you are one tall glass of water and I'm thirsty!" [Adam Moerder]
3.5 stars [out of 4]

You can listen to "Walking with a Ghost" for free on Rhapsody.
It's a decent song, nothing great and of course.......it's too short.
I'll be picking it up for sure.

Minor plug: we filmed an acoustic session with Tegan and Sara where they played "Walking with a Ghost." You can view it http://www.ugo.com/channels/music/ug...t.asp?id=13716. The song is maddingly addictive.

Did anyone pick this up?
It's pretty good. I like the cover and the extended version of "Screwdriver" is fantastic. They should have put a live version of "The Nurse" on it. That song is fantastic live and easily trumps the album version.

EDIT - Got it and like it a lot. Walking with a Ghost is growing on me and the live version of Screwdriver is excellent.
6 bucks for 5 good songs - I'm happy I picked it up.

.....I find myself listening to 'Same boy you've always known' a lot as well and I personally like 'The Denial Twist' played heavy - cool stuff.
