Love my 42" Panasonic plasma EDTV, and many thanks to those of you who answered my previous questions regarding captioning and HDTV vs. EDTV.
Without having to drop $30+ on a calibration DVD, is there a quick-fix for the hideous bluish tinge of the trees and all things green in the movies I'm watching on DVD? I've tried every configuration possible, but I can only seem to get foliage to actually look green if I turn the picture to +30 and the tint to blue (?) +30. Even then, everything looks washed out and...alien, for lack of a better word.

Have you looked over on the AVS forums? Many owners post their settings for optimal PQ after calibration with Avia.
You may have to do a search for your specific model. Just a thought.

Or, you could spend less on a calibration DVD, they are worth every penny. DVE is currently $16.48 at DDD. Will be 20% off soon, too.
Also, check your DVD player. It may have video settings that are throwing it out of whack if this is just for DVDs.

Just a question on these DVD's. I know some come with color layovers or something right? Like Avia? I think Blockbuster.com allows you to rent them....How good of a calibration could I get with just a rental?

First, if you spent the money it took to buy that tv, the calibration disc should be a no brainer. Second, what dvd's are you using to base your conclusion? Try some of the reference discs mentioned here by doing a search and third, what kind of dvd player are you using?

BB discs (if they carry setup discs) probably won't have the color strips anymore. You should ask and double check in the box if you want to rent.
Next, most THX movie discs (SW, Pixar, etc) have an optimizer in the extras. This won't have the color strips for perfect color rendition, but it will get you somewhere for free. I'm assuming you have at least one of these.
And last......they really are worth it. I own 2 of these, one Bass Mechanik CD and a couple other audio setup discs. Plus my own SPL meter for the audio. Some of the best dollars I ever spent. Every time something changes, you have to set it up again.
